2. Clause 7 of section 2 of the said Act is hereby amended by striking out the word "March" where it occurs therein and substituting therefor the word "May," and by striking out the word "February" where it occurs therein and by substituting therefor the word "April."

3. Section 12 of the said Act is hereby amended by striking out the word "March" where it occurs therein and by substituting therefor the word "May."

4. Section 26 of the said Act is hereby amended by striking out the word "March" where it occurs therein and by substituting therefor the word "May."

5. This Act shall not come into force or take effect until the first day of May, 1913.

CHAPTER 7

An Act to amend The Public Works Act.

[Assented to January 3, 1913.]

IS Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan enacts as follows:

1. The Public Works Act is amended by adding thereto the following section as section 75:

"75. For the purpose of providing for the better carrying out of the provisions of this Act the Lieutenant Governor in Council may by order delegate to the board of highway commissioners such of the duties of the public works department as may be deemed advisable and whenever this is done the said board shall have and exercise all the powers conferred by the Act upon the department and the minister of public works subject to the approval of the members of the executive council to whom for the time being is assigned the supervision of the administration of The Public Highways Act."

An Act to amend The Public Health Act.

2. The said Act is amended by adding thereto immediately after section 14 thereof the following as section 14a:

"14a. The expenses incurred by local boards of health, or by the medical health officers of such boards in the execution of all work in connection with epidemics in their several areas, in superintending the execution of the regulations made by the commissioner under the authority of The Public Health Act or in carrying out any instructions or orders of the commissioner shall be defrayed and provided for by the cities, towns, villages or rural municipalities having jurisdiction over the respective places affected:

3. Section 23 of the said Act as amended by subsection (2) 8. 23, ss. (2) of section 4 of The Statute Law Amendment Act of 1912 is hereby amended by striking out the word "(heretofore)" where it occurs in the first line of the proviso to the said section and substituting therefor the words "heretofore passed or hereafter to be"; and by adding to the said proviso the following words, "and all proceedings taken or purporting to have been taken under the provisions of this proviso to the said section since the same was enacted are hereby declared to be valid."

4. Section 54 of said Act is hereby amended by striking out the words "or attending physician" where they occur in the fourth and fifth lines of the first paragraph thereof and inserting after the word "commissioner" in the fourth line thereof the word "or," and by striking out the words "or attending physician" where they occur in the eighth and ninth lines in the same paragraph and inserting after the word "commissioner" in the eighth line thereof the word "or."

5. The said Act is further amended by adding thereto after section 92 thereof the following sections:

"EMBALMING DEAD BODIES.

"93. No person after the first day of April one thousand nine hundred and thirteen shall embalm and prepare any dead body or hold himself out as practising the art of embalming or practise such art without first applying for and receiving from the commissioner of public health a license authorising him to do so.

"(2) All applications for licenses shall be made in writing and shall be accompanied by the examination fee of five dollars, with proof that the applicant is of good moral character and has attained the age of at least twenty-one years:

Provided, however, that every person who at the time of the passing of this Act was actually and actively engaged in the practise of the art of embalming in Saskatchewan shall be granted a license as an embalmer without an examination upon the production of such evidence to the commissioner and upon payment of the license fee aforesaid.

"94. The commissioner shall provide for examinations for embalmers at least twice yearly; notices of such examinations shall be published at least twice in two daily newspapers in the province.

"95. The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint and provide for the remuneration of a board of examiners of persons applying to be so licensed as embalmers under the provisions of this Act.

"96. Each applicant for a license shall be examined in the following subjects: anatomy, sanitary science, the care, preservation, embalming, transportation and burial of dead bodies, and shall demonstrate his proficiency as an embalmer in such manner as the examiners may require; if the applicant shall successfully pass the examination then the board of examiners shall authorise a license to issue at the hands of the commissioner of public health allowing him to practise the art of embalming and to handle and bury dead bodies of a contagious or infectious disease.
