Or this,

O GOD, infinite in compassion, what manner of love hast thou bestowed upon us, that we should be called thy sons! We adore thee for such unspeakable condescension, manifested in the death and sufferings of thy only begotten Son Jesus Christ, and in our calling, by the Holy Ghost. Grant that we may ever declare our thankfulness by approving ourselves not of this world, nor subjects of the prince of this world, but as being risen with Christ, in a death unto sin, and a daily living in righteousness. We also bless thee for all thy wonderful works in creation, in nature, and in grace, by which we learn thee, admire thee, and long to be with and enjoy thee for ever. And we also bless thee for our preservation, health, food, raiment, friends, and all mercies pertaining to this life. May we ceaselessly delight in and serve thee, who art infinitely worthy of all service, and who with the Son and the Holy Ghost, art most high, God over all, blessed for evermore. Amen. Our Father, &c.

CONCLUDING COLLECT.

O LORD, mercifully accept our evening sacrifice. Increase our faith, govern our minds, grant us spiritual thoughts, and fill our hearts with hope of thy heavenly bliss, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

MAY God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, bless, preserve, and keep us, this night and evermore. Amen.

FRIDAY MORNING.

COME now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isaiah i. 18.

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. Lament. iii. 40, 41.

Turn thou to thy God; keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually. Hosea

xii. 6.

I

say

unto you, that joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety · and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Luke xv. 7.

If ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. 1 Peter i. 17.

7. Look upon my affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sin. xxv. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 18.

9. For mine iniquities are gone over my head; as an heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.

10. Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my groaning is not hid from thee. xxxviii. 4, 9. 11. And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

12. Deliver me from all my transgressions : make me not the rebuke of the foolish.

13. Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thy hand.

14. O spare me: that I may recover strength, before I go hence and be no more. xxxix. 7, 8, 10, 13.

Glory be, &c.

PSALM XXX.

THE FEEBLENESS AND VANITY OF MAN

CONFESSED.

1. HEAR my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee.

2. My days are like a shadow that declineth, and I am withered like grass. cii. 1, 11.

3. Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain.
