The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Ps. ix. 17. God is Judge himself. Ps. 1. 6. Verily, there is a reward for the righteous; verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth. Ps. lviii. 11. He cometh to judge the earth; and he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth. -Ps. xcvi. 13. xcviii. 9. Shall not he render to everyman according to his works ?-Prov. xxiv. 12. Rejoice, O young man in thy youth, &c. and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.-Eccles. xi. 9. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Eccles. xii. 14. iii. 17. Thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men; to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. -Jer. xxxii. 19. xvii. 10. Ezek. xviii. xxxiii. 8, &c. Agree with thine adversary, &c. lest at any time thine adversary deliver thee to the judge, &c.-Matt. ν. 25, 26. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? &c. Then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me ye that work iniquity, -Matt. vii. 22, 23. Luke xiii. 25-27. Whosoever shall not receive you, &c. it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. Matt.x. 14, 15. xi. 21-25. xii. 41,42. But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.-Matt. xii. 36. So shall it be in the end of the world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather, &c. them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth: then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun, &c. - Matt. xiii. 40 -43.49, 50. Luke iii. 17. The Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father, with his angels: and then he shall reward every man according to his works.-Matt. xvi. 27. Christ, by a similitude of the labourers in his vineyard, and the hiring of some early for a penny a day, and afterwards others later, who were to have what was right, as the hirer judged fit; shewed God's free grace, to give to those who came late as to the others who bargained; his justice in giving to them what they agreed for; but they murmured, expecting more : and then his grace to the others, saying, Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?Matt. xx. 1-16. There was a man who had not on a wedding garment; and the king saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding garment? and he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping, &c.-Matt. xxii. 11-13, xxv. 30. As the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be, &c. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn: and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven, with power wer and great glory: and he shall send his angels, with a great sound of a trumpet; and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, &c. But of that day and hour knoweth no man; no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only: but as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be; for as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating and drinking, &c. When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory; and before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was an hungered, &c. Then shall he say unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was an hungered, &c. and these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal. - Matt. xxv.31-33.35.41,42.46. Lukeiii. 17. Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.-Matt. xxvi. 64. Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father, with the holy angels.-Mark viii. 38. The Father judgeth no man; but hath committed all judgment unto the Son, that all men should honour the Son, &c. and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man, &c. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not mine own will, &c.-John v. 22, 23. 27.30. He that rejecteth me, &c. hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.-John xii. 48. I will come again and receive you. -John xiv. 3. Ye now therefore have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, &c.-John xvi. 22. The same Jesus, which is taken from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. -Acts i. 11. He commanded us to preach unto the people; and to testify, that it is he which was ordained of God, to be the judge of quick and dead.-Acts x. 42. He hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.-Acts xvii. 31. And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled.--Acts xxiv. 25. Thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest, &c. that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? or despisest, &c. After thy hardness, and impenitent heart, treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath; and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to every man according to his deeds: to them, who by patient continuance in well doing, &c. eternal life; but unto them that are contentious, &c. indignation and wrath, &c. upon every soul of man that doeth evil, &c. but glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, &c. For there is no respect of persons with God, &c. in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.-Rom. ii. 3. 5-11. 16. Is God unrighteous? &c. God forbid; for then, how shall God judge the world?-Rom. iii. 5, 6. Why dost thou judge thy brother? &c. we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ: for it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then, every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Rom. xiv. 10 – 12. Isa. xlv. 23. If any man build on this foundation heaven with his mighty angels, in gold, silver, &c. every man's work shall be made manifest, for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work, of what sort it is, &c.-1 Cor. iii. 12-15. He that judgeth me, is the Lord: therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come; who both will bring to light, the hidden things of darkness, &c. - 1 Cor. iv. 4, 5. Eph. v. 12-14. Do ye not know, that the saints shall judge the world? &c. know ye not that we shall judge angels? 1 Cor. vi. 2, 3. We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad: knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.-2 Cor. v. 10, 11. 1 Cor. iii. 8. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Col. iii. 4. To the end he may establish your hearts unblameable in holiness, before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, with all his saints. - 1 Thess. iii. 13. The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout; with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God.-1 Thess. iv. 16, 17. For yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night: for when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape, &c. I pray God your whole spirit, and soul and body, be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord.-1 Thess. ν. 2, 3. 23. It is a righteous thing with God, to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you: and to you who are troubled, rest with us; when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus; who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.-2 Thess. i. 6-9. We beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye he not soon shaken in mind, or troubled, &c. as that the day of Christ is at hand, let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first; and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.2 Thess. ii. 1-3. Until the illustrious appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.-1 Tim. vi. 14. The Lord Jesus, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing, and his kingdom, &c. a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. -2 Tim. iv. 1. 8. Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ. -Titus ii. 13. 2 Tim. i. 10. Not laying again the foundation, &c. of eternal judgment.-Heb. vi. 1,2. It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. So Christ, &c. unto them that look for him, shall he appear the second time, without sin unto salvation. Heb. ix. 27, 28. A certain fearful looking for of judgment, and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversary, &c. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.-Heb. x. 27.31. Ye are come unto Mount Zion, &c. and to God the judge of all, &c.Heb. xii. 22, 23. Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord, &c. for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. -James v. 7, 8. That the trial of your faith, &c. might be found unto praise, and honour, and glory, at the appearing of Jesus Christ, &c. The Father, who, without respect of persons, judgeth according unto every man's works.-1 Pet. i. 7.13.17. Ps. lxii. 12. Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead? &c. The end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer, &c. The time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?1 Pet. iv. 5. 7. 17, 18. When the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory.-1 Pet. v. 4. If God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down, &c. to be reserved unto judgment, &c. The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment, to be punished.-2 Pet. ii. 4. 9. There shall come in the last day, scoffers, walking after their ownlusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning, &c. The heavens and the earth, which are now by the same word, are kept in store, reserved unto fire, against the day of judgment, and perdition of ungodly men, &c. One day is with the Lord as a thousand years; and a thousand years as one day, &c. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, &c. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be? &c. Looking for and hastening unto the coming of the day of God.-2 Pet. iii. 3, 4, 7, 8. 10-12. Ps. cii. 25, 26. Abide in him; that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.-1 John ii. 28. That we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, so are we.-1 John iv. 17. The angels, which kept not their first estate, he hath reserved in everlasting chains, under darkness, unto the judgment of the great day, &c. The nations were angry; and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead that they should be judged; and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets.Rev. xi. 18. xiv. 7. I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it; from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away, &c. and I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened, &c. and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. We are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth, against them which commit such things.Rom. ii. 2. Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap: for he that soweth to his flesh, shall of the flesh reap corruption, &c.-Gal. vi. 7, 8. CHAP. XXXV. OF THE GLORY PREPARED AND RESERVED FOR BELIEVERS, AT THE APPEARING OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. MEN have not heard nor perceived by the ear, &c. what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. -Isa. lxiv. 4. 1 Cor. ii. 9, 10. Verily there is a reward for the righteous. Ps. lviii. 11. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.-1 Cor. xv. 19. 1 Tim. iv. 8. Though after my skin, worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh (or out of my flesh) shall I see God: whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another. Job xix. 26, 27. In thy presence is fulness of joy: at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. --Ps. xvi. 11. xvii. 15. Death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. -Ps. xlix. 14. Many of them who sleep in the dust of the earth, shall awake: some to everlasting life, some to shame, &c. and they that be wise (or teachers) shall shine as the brightness of the firmament: and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars, for ever and ever.--Dan. xii. 2, 3. Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.-Matt. v. 8. Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven; where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.-Matt. vi. 20. Many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, &c. in the kingdom of heaven. -Matt. viii. 11. Luke xvi. 22. 25. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father.-Matt. xiii. 43.
