ART. XLII.

In churches where there are more minifters than one, each minister shall have liberty to appear in the claffis, and be entitled to a deciding voice, fuch cases excepted which particularly affect their perfons, or congregations.

ART. XLIII.

At the clofe of the claffical, and other higher affemblies a cenfura morum fhall be held with refpect to those who have been guilty of any cenfurable conduct in the affembly, or who have defpifed the admonitions of the leffer judicatories.

ART. XLIV.

Each claffis fhall authorize two, or more of the eldeft, moft experienced, and beft qualified of its meibers annually to vifit all the churches belonging to its jurifdiction, both in the cities, and in the country whofe bufinefs it fhall be to enquire, Whether the minifters, confiftories, and fchoolmafters do faithfully difcharge their offices? Whether they adhere to found doctrine? Whether they obferve in all things the received difcipline, and promote as much as poffible by word, and deed, the edification of the congregation in general, and of the

youth in particular? That fo they may feasonably, and in a brotherly manner admonish thofe who in either of these particulars may be found negligent; and by their counfel, and conduct affift in directing all things to the edification, and profperity of the churches, and fchools.

Each Claffis may continue their Visitors in office during pleasure, except when the vifitors themfelves for reafons, of which the claffis fhall judge, request to be difmiffed.

ART. XLV.

The churches in which either the claffis, the particular, or general fynod affembles, fhall be careful to provide them with the minutes of the laft preceding affembly.

ART. XLVI.

Inftructions refpecting matters to be treated of in the higher affemblies, are not to be recorded until the refolutions of the foregoing fynod have been. read, to the end that fuch things which have been determined, may not be again refumed, unless fome alteration is conceived neceffary.

ART. XLVII.

Once every year (unless an extraordinary feffion fhall be judged neceffary) two minifters, and two elders, delegated from four or more neighbouring claffis, fhall meet, and conftitute a PARTICULAR SYNOD. At the rifing of every fynod, the time, and place of their next meeting fhall be ascertained.

ART. XLVIII.

Every fynod fhall be at liberty to folicit, and hold correspondence with its neighbouring fynod, or fynods, in fuch manner as fhall be judged moft conducive to general edification.

ART. XLIX.

Every fynod fhall depute fome of its members to put in execution whatever has been ordained by fuch fynod, as well in matters of a general concern, as in what relates to the refpective claffes in particular, that are fubject to its jurifdiction; which deputies, or at leaft fome of them, fhall also be prefent at the examination of all candidates for the mi- niftry; and fhall moreover afford the claffis their advice, and affiftance in whatever difficulties may occur, to the end that uniformity, order, and purity

of doctrine may be maintained, and established.-They shall also keep a faithful record of their proceedings, that they may report the fame to the fynod, to whom they fhall produce the reafons of their conduct, if thereunto required; nor thall they be difiniffed from their commiffion, until the fynod fhall discharge them.

ART. L.

A GENERAL SYNOD fhall be held ordinarily every three years (unless a preffing neceffity fall require a fhorter recefs.) To this fynod two miniflers and two elders fhall be delegated from every particular fynod, both of the Dutch and Walloon churches, Moreover the church charged with nominating the time and place for the meeting of the generalfynod, in cafe of its being called together within three years, fhall affemble the particular fynod to which it belongs, and give notice of the fame to the next adjacent church that uses a different language, which church fhall fend thither four perfons, in order with general confent, to fix upon a proper time and place.

ART. LI.

Whereas, two languages are ufed in the Netherlands, it is judged proper that the Dutch and Wal

loon churches fhall have their diftin & confiftories, claffical affemblies, and particular fynods.

ART. LII.

It is notwithstanding judged proper that in thofe cities where the above mentioned Walloon churches are, fome minifters, and elders of both defcriptions fhould affemble together monthly, in order to preferve unity, and mutual good correfpondence, and as much as poffible, according to circumstances, with counsel to affift each other,
