I. That upon payment by the said Ann Elizabeth Smith of the 29 Vic. c. 35. contributions which were in arrear at the time of the death of the said Augustus William Smith, the said Ann Elizabeth Smith shall The benefits be entitled, as the widow of the said Augustus William Smith, to of certain Acts the benefits of the Acts of Assembly providing for the payment of extended to pensions to the widows and orphans of public officers in the same A. W. Smith. and the like manner, and to same extent, as if the said contributions had been paid by the said Augustus William Smith in his lifetime, anything in the said Acts or either of them contained to the contrary notwithstanding.

OFFICERS.

3 Vic. c. 11. An Act for the Support of Her Majesty's Government within these Islands. (24th December, 1839.)

THIS Act, which is printed in full in the 1st vol. p. 884 to 887, originally granted the sum of 6,9007. for the purpose of paying the various salaries, and defraying the public expenses enumerated in the schedules to the Act annexed.

The following, however, are the only sums which are now payable under the Act, viz.:

521. 1s. 8d. per annum, as salary to the Housekeeper of the House of Assembly, General Court and Public Offices, And

191. 2s. 6d. for occasional contingent payments.

THE following annual salaries are payable under this Act :

10 Vic. c. 14. An Act to amend an Act entitled “An Act for
the Support of Her Majesty's Government within these
Islands."

THE only salary payable under this Act is the following:-
To the Assignee of the Court of Bankruptcy,
or such smaller sums as may be necessary to make
the emoluments of his office equal annually to the
said sum of £45 in any year, where such emolu-
ments shall not amount thereto

10 Vic. c. 28. An Act to fix the rate of Salary of his Excel-
lency the Governor, or Officer administering the Govern-
ment of these Islands; the Private Secretary of his Excel-
lency; the Public Secretary and Registrar of Deeds, and
the Clerk of the Council.

UNDER this Act a Salary of 8001. per annum, is payable to the
Governor of the Colony, and a salary of 500l. per annum to the
Officer administering the Government in the absence of the
Governor.

18 Vic. c. 16.

GRANTS an additional salary of £10 per annum to the Assistant
Messenger of the House of Assembly.

20 Vic. c. 13.

GRANTS a personal allowance to Annie Pratt, the Housekeeper of the Public Buildings, of £10 per annum.

23 Vic. c. 6.

PROVIDES for the payment of the following annual salaries:-
To the Gaoler at New Plymouth, Abaco ...... £25

PREAMBLE.

26 Vic. c. 15. An Act for providing a more equitable Scale of Remuneration to certain Civil Servants of the Crown in this Colony, and for other Purposes. (Assented to 26th May, 1863.)

HEREAS the salaries at present attached to certain of the to be performed, and there are some offices which are considered useless, whilst the emoluments attached to others are considered to be too large; And whereas there is no fixed scale of remuneration by which long and faithful services in the various public offices of the Colony are rewarded, and it is just and desirable that there should be a provision by law for the remuneration of such public servants as may continue in the public service and faithfully serve in their respective offices upon an equitable scale extending to all of such offices; May it, &c.:

I. That from and after the first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, the several amounts set and placed opposite the respective offices named in the schedule to this Act annexed, marked A, shall be payable out of the Public Treasury of these Islands, in monthly payments by warrant in the usual manner, to the respective holders of such offices, unless any portions of such salaries are payable out of Crown funds, when and in every such case they shall continue to be paid as now provided for; and when any qualifications for office, or other stipulations are annexed as conditions on which any existing salary is now paid, such conditions shall apply and attach to the salary payable under this Act, and so much of any other Act of the General Assembly of the Islands as provides for the payment of salaries, or annual allowances in the nature of salaries, to the holders of the offices so named, save and except where the same is payable as a personal grant to the present holder of any such office, shall be and the same is hereby thenceforth repealed.

II. III. That whenever any vacancy shall occur in the several offices mentioned in the schedule C, hereto annexed, by the death, several offices resignation, or removal from office, of the present holders thereof, such offices shall thenceforth, from time to time as such vacancies occur, be abolished; but until any such vacancy shall occur in manner aforesaid the respective holders of such offices shall be entitled to receive out of the Public Treasury, in monthly payments as aforesaid, the salaries now by law respectively attached to such offices, all which salaries shall be held, deemed, and taken to be salaries payable under this Act; and all other Acts or portions of Acts regulating the payment of salaries in respect of such offices

V.
