AN ACT to amend Section Fifteen of the
University of Western Australia Act, 1911.

BE

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the University Act Amendment Act, 1917.

2. Section fifteen of the University of Western Australia Act, 1911, is hereby amended by deleting the word "building" before the word "leases," in line four thereof.

AN ACT to amend the Melville Tramways Act, 1914.

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the Melville Tramways Act Short title. Amendment Act, 1917, and shall be read as one with the Melville Tramways Act, 1914, hereinafter referred to as the principal

Act.

2. Section three of the principal Act is hereby amended by Amendment of omitting the words "two years in the second paragraph of Section 3. subsection (1) thereof, and inserting seven years " in place

AN ACT to continue the operation of the
Licensing Act Amendment Act, 1914.

BE it enacted the advice and consent of the Legislative

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by

Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the Licensing Act Amendment Continuance Act, 1917.

2. The Licensing Act Amendment Act, 1914, shall continue in force until the thirtieth day of September, One thousand nine hundred and eighteen, and shall then expire unless further continued:

Provided that if prior to that date a resolution is passed by both Houses of Parliament to the effect that the said Act shall continue for a further period expressed in such resolution the said Act shall continue in force accordingly.

AN ACT to unite the Victoria Park Municipality with the City of Perth,

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the City of Perth Act Amend- Short title and ment Act, 1917, and shall be read as one with the City of Perth commencement. Act, 1914 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), and shall come into operation on the 1st day of November, 1917.

2. The Victoria Park Municipality is hereby united with the City of Perth, and, except as hereinafter provided, the provisions of Part III. of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1906, shall apply as if the union had been effected under the procedure therein prescribed.

4. (1.) Notwithstanding anything contained in the Municipal Corporations Act, 1906, to the contrary, the tenure of office of the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Perth in office at the commencement of this Act shall not be affected by this Act, but the Mayor and Councillors of the Victoria Park Municipality shall go out of office on the commencement of this Act, and an election of three councillors to represent the Eighth Ward of the City of Perth shall be held at the next election of Mayor and Councillors for the said City.

(2.) Of the councillors for the Eighth Ward so elected, one shall go out of office on the 30th day of November, 1918, one on the 30th day of November, 1919, and the third councillor shall go out of office on the 30th day of November, 1920.

The order of such retirement shall be determined under the provisions of subsection (4) of section 45 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1906.

(3.) The rolls in force immediately before the commencement of this Act for the election of mayor in the Victoria Park municipality may be adopted for use as the roll for the election of the first councillors for the Eighth Ward of the City of Perth as hereby constituted, and as an addendum to the roll for the election of Mayor of the City of Perth and an Auditor, but the number of votes to which each elector is entitled for the election of Councillors and of Mayor and an Auditor, respectively, shall be inserted in the appropriate columns.

Provided that if, at the commencement of this Act, the name of any such elector is on the roll for the election of Mayor as an owner or occupier of land in the City of Perth, his name shall be omitted from such addendum, but the value of the land in respect of which he is enrolled shall be increased by the value of the land in the Eighth Ward as hereby constituted of which he is owner or occupier, and the number of votes (not exceeding four) to which he is entitled shall be adjusted accordingly.

5. For the financial year ending 31st October, 1918, the rate book of the Victoria Park municipality may be used as the rate book for the Eighth Ward of the City of Perth.

6. Section five of the principal Act shall apply to officers of the Victoria Park municipality.
