PREFACE. THE original object of the author in preparing a set of Sunday school lessons for the Christian year, was to supply a want felt in his own schools-but he has been since induced to publish them, with the hope that they may be useful to others, who, like himself, are interested in the work of Sunday school instruction. The plan he has adopted is to avoid bringing forward too many things, but rather to engage the attention of the children by keeping one subject before them throughout the day. With this view he has taken the subject or striking point of the Collect,—explaining it as simply as possible for the morning, and illustrating it, either by Biblical characters or scenes, for the afternoon; while the lessons are purposely made of such a length, and filled with so much matter, that they may be curtailed or not as the teacher may deem advisable for the class. His only wish is that the work may prove in some degree useful, and that the blessing of God may rest upon it. |
