INTERPRETATION.

23. Wherever the following words occur in any part of this Interpretation Act as having reference to Lower Canada, they shall be clause. interpreted as follows:

The words" Assessment-Roll" shall signify Assessment-Roll, AssessmentValuation-Roll, or any document containing a statement of the Roll. Valuation of property in any City, Town or other Municipality.

The word "Assessor" shall signify Assessor, Valuator or Assessor. other person employed to make the valuation of property in any City or other Municipality.

The word "Owner" shall signify proprietor, either in owner. his own right or in the right of his wife, or as usufructuary (usufruitier) of a real estate in fief, in censive, in franc-aleu, or in free and common soccage.

An Act for granting to Her Majesty certain sums of money required for defraying certain expenses of the Civil Government for the year 1859, and for certain other expenses connected with the public service, and also for raising a Loan on the credit of the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

HEREAS by Messages from His Excellency Sir Edmund Preamble, Walker Head, Governor General of British North America, and Captain General and Governor in Chief in and over this Province of Canada, and the Estimates accompanying the same, laid before both Houses of the Provincial Parliament, it appears that the sums hereinafter mentioned are required to defray certain expenses of the Civil Government of this Provinee and of the Public Service thereof, for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight May it therefore please Your Majesty that it be enacted, and be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of Canada, that,

1. From and out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of this $2,283,073.j Province, there shall be and may be paid and applied a sum 51cts. appropriated for not exceeding in the whole the sum of two million, two hundred purposes menand eighty-three thousand, and seventy-three dollars, fifty-one tioned in the cents, for defraying the several charges and expenses of the Schedule. Civil Government and Public Service of this Province for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight, and other purposes set forth in the Schedule to this Act.

2.
