He na poesia onde mais particularmente se observa o prodigioso numero d'ellas, em virtude do uso frequente que fazem da ellipse os poetas inglezes, imitando, ou talvez excedendo nesta parte os poetas latinos.

DA VERSIFICAÇÃO INGLEZA.

Os versos inglezes são iambicos, trochaicos, dactylicos ou anapesticos. O pé jambo consta de huma syllaba breve seguida de outra longa. Ex. půrsūe, disdāin. D'elle se formão versos de quatro, seis, oito ou dez syllabas. Ex. de quatro syllabas.
