7th.-Boys shall be admitted at five years of age and upwards, and Girls at seven years old and upwards. Both may remain three years; the Committee have power to enlarge that term. No Child with a cutaneous Eruption or infectious Disorder will be received.

8th. The following printed Rules are to be delivered to the Parent, or Relative, on entering a Child.

RULES for the GUIDANCE of PARENTS.

1. They must send their Children regularly to School at the proper hours, clean, washed, and combed, viz. Nine in the Morning, and Two in the Afternoon.

2. That on Sundays they are to send their Children to the SchoolRoom at such hours as shall be directed by the Master, before they proceed to Church.

3. They must never detain them from School except from Sickness, or by leave of the Visitors. In the former case they must inform the Master of the circumstance.

4.-No Parents are permitted to take their Children out of the School without their appearing before the Committee.

5. The Parent or Relative must be regular in the payment of One Shilling per quarter, to be paid on every first Monday in January, April, July, and October.

6. They must direct their Children to pay strict attention to the following Rules:

RULES for the CHILDREN.

1.-They must go directly to and from the School in an orderly

manner.

2. They must behave respectfully to their Teachers, and strictly obey the directions given them.

3. They must take the greatest care of their Books and Slates. 4. They must be diligent whilst at School, and behave with the greatest reverence during Prayers, or Divine Service at Church.

5. They must be kind one to another, and never tell a Lie, Cheat, Steal, or Swear.

9th.-Prayers shall be regularly read in the Schools twice every day, viz. in the morning before the School business commences, and in the afternoon before the Children are dismissed.

10th. The Committee shall visit the Central Schools every first Wednesday in the month; for which purpose the Members shall meet one hour before the time for taking the Chair, and then appoint five Visitors for the ensuing month, the rules for whose couduct shall be entered in a Book to be kept at the School-room. Two of these are expected to visit the School every Friday afternoon, in order to hear the Children examined, and as much oftener as they may think fit.

11. The Master of the School shall be entrusted with Tickets of Merit, which he is to distribute as he thinks proper. The value of the Tickets to be as under-mentioned, half of which value to be paid by the Visitors every Friday afternoon, and the remaining half to be entered by them in a Book, called the Fund Book, and the Children are to receive the amount of the Sums opposite their Names on their discharge from the School, according to the established Regulations. In case the Children leave the School improperly, the same to be forfeited.

Besides which rewards, every Boy who shall be found by the Register to have been at the head of his Class twice in the course of the week, to receive a Ticket, six of which will be valued One Penny, to be paid him immediately.

RULES for affording Assistance to SCHOOLS formed upon Dr. BELL's SYSTEM, in the County of DEVON. 1st. This Society will receive and instruct a Boy or Master sent from any Parish, on the Recommendation of the Minister, and any Member of the Society.

2d.-The Society will defray the Expences of such Person while under Instructions, if so required, not exceeding 123. per week, provided the Master and Visitors of the Central School find him capable of filling the situation of a Parochial Schoolmaster, for which purpose a week's trial will be allowed.

3d. On a similar application, a Monitor will be sent from the Central School, and maintained at the expence of the Society whilst arranging the Parochial School.

4th. The Society will likewise make a donation of Books and Slates, sufficient for the first establishment of the School, in the proportion of 51. 5s. to 100 Children.

5th. The Society will also furnish Books and Slates at Prime Cost, on the application of the Minister of any Parish where Schools are established on Dr. BELL's Plan.

6th. The Society will contribute towards the Salary of the Schoolmaster, in cases where it shall appear to the Society necessary and expedient so to do.

7th.- Parishes availing themselves of the Benefits of these Regulations will be required to consider the LORD BISHOP as their Patron, and to make an annual Return, signed by the Minister, before the 1st of August in each year, of the number of Children educated on Dr. BELL'S Plan in their respective Schools.

8th.--The Society will gladly receive similar Returns from any other Schools in the county of Devon, conducted on the same plan, which may not receive any assistance.

9th. Parishes receiving assistance shall allow the Master of the Central School, or any other Person authorized by the President or General Committee, to visit their Schools from time to time, if they think proper.

10th.-Six Persons can be received at one time into the Central School for Instruction. Parishes applying after such number are received shall be taken according to the seniority of their appli

cations.

11th.-All communications on the subject of the foregoing Reso lutions shall be made through one of the Secretaries, and, if by letter, post-paid.

The General Committee in presenting these Rules and Regulations of the Society to their Benefactors and Subscribers, cannot but sincerely congratulate them on the success that has already attended the Plan which they have so liberally promoted, and express their confident expectation, that this extensive County, which has, so much to its credit, set an example to other counties in the first Establishment of the Society, will also continue to it an increased and generous support, and enable the Committee gradually to diffuse the great Blessing of religious and useful Knowledge through every Parish in Devon.

HAMPSHIRE SOCIETY for the EDUCATION of the INFANT POOR in the Principles of the Established Church.

St. John's House, Winchester, November 19, 1812.

AT a numerous and general Meeting of the Clergy of the Church of England within the county of Hants, convened at the desire of the Lord BISHOP of WINCHESTER;

Honourable and Right Reverend the Lord BISHOP of Winchester, in the Chair:

Resolved unanimously.

1.-That it is highly expedient that the Clergy assembled at this Meeting should form a Society for the Education of the Infant

Poor within the county of Hants, for the purpose of instructing them, upon the admirable plan of the Rev. Dr. BELL, in the knowledge of the Bible, and of our excellent Catechism; also in such other useful learning as will be profitable for them in their condition, and to establish them in the true principles of the Church of England.

2.-That the Nobility, Gentry, and Laity at large, throughout the county, be respectfully invited and requested to join us in this humane and charitable undertaking, to honour us by becoming Members of our Society, and assist us with their subscriptions, counsel, and experience.

3. That books be opened at the different Banks in Winchester, and at Messrs. CHILD'S, and Messrs. HOARE'S, London, to receive donations, and annual subscriptions.

4.That the Society consist of a President, Vice-Presidents, a Committee, Treasurer, and two Secretaries.

5. That the Lord BISHOP of WINCHESTER be President.

6. That the Vice-Presidents (who shall be, ex officio, of the Committee) be the Dean and Chapter of Winchester, the Warden, Fellows, and two Schoolmasters of Winchester College, (for the time being) with instructions to add to their number twelve members of the Laity.

7. That the Committee consist of the Parochial Clergy of the city and suburbs of Winchester, with power to add any members of the Clergy and Laity.

8. That the Treasurer be the Rev. GILBERT HEATHCOTE, and that the Secretaries be the Rev. HENRY SISSMORE and the Rev. FREDERIC IREMONGER.

9. That the constitution which may be agreed upon by the Committee, when approved by the President and Vice-Presidents, shall be adopted as the constitution of this Society.

10. That the thanks of the Clergy present be given to the Lord BISHOP of WINCHESTER, for having convened this Meeting, for the very able and judicious manner in which he has opened and conducted the business of the day, and also for having accepted the offfice of President,
