The "Golden Rule" Story Books.

ILLUSTRATED.

THis interesting and attractive series of Stories for Young People is primarily intended, as the title imports, to inculcate in an unobtrusive manner the "Golden Rule." The old proverb saith truly, "Precepts may lead, but examples draw." It will be found that these Stories bear upon the cardinal elements of characterquietly and naturally showing the necessity for their culture-bringing out in a pleasant genial manner the teachings of experience, and the true aims of life.

As a general rule, the Story Books are equally suitable for Boys and Girls. By the help of the titles given, it will be easy for Parents, Teachers, and Friends, quick to mark the dispositions and habits of the young, so to choose, if need be, as to bring a good Story to bear upon a weak point or a fault-to instruct, to inspire, or to warn. It may be Industry and Sobriety; Firmness and Suavity; Patience, Selfdenial, and Cheerfulness; Order, Punctuality, and Contentment; Filial Obedience; Respect for Experience, or Reverence for Age; all these, and many other of the nicer essentials to a fine character and a noble life, are distinctly traced in the "Golden Rule" Story Books. Printed in clear bold type; every book illustrated by Wood Engravings; and published in

"These are books to make girls lay aside their dolls, and boys forget their hoops for hours together. A bright-eyed child called from play an hour or two ago to receive one or two of them, has scarcely looked up since, and replies to the question, whether she has read 'every word' of them, by saying, 'Yes, every word, except the good little bit at the end.' And 'the good little bit at the end' is not always present, and it is never needed. The story tells its own moral, and conveys its own lessons."-Baptist Magazine.

"We have here twenty-four small books for small people, at the smallest of prices; each volume containing from forty to fifty pages of small but clear letterpress, several illustrations, good paper, good writing, and all for the charge of threepence! * We will only say that such a windfall of books is not often shaken from a Christmas-tree."-Athenæum.

"Paterfamilias need be at no loss for Story Books for his children so long as those of 'Golden Rule' remain in print. A better selection of Tales for the Young we are unacquainted with. They are equally suitable for boys or girls, are life-like, strictly moral, and a proper sense of religion is manifest throughout. They are well printed on good paper and in bold type, and are illustrated with well-executed wood engravings."-Mair's Register.

"Altogether form a pretty as well as useful present."-Scotsman.

"These are excellent little works for children. A vein of sound morality runs through them, and they will supply a large fund of entertainment to the juvenile mind. We should like to hear of the attention of our Sabbath Schools having been turned in this direction for reward books. It would be difficult to find so much substance for so little money anywhere else."-Methodist Magazine.
