The following plain forms have been compiled with a view to afford some additional variety in the daily observance of household worship.

HOUSEHOLD PRAYERS.

I.

O LORD thou hast searched us out and known us: Thou knowest our down-sitting and our up-rising; Thou understandest our thoughts long before.

Thou art about our path, and about our bed, and spiest out all our ways.-(From Ps. cxxxix. 1, 2.)

O Almighty God, who inhabitest eternity, who dwellest in the high and holy place, and with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, we confess that

our transgressions are multiplied before Thee,-yea, our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities we know them, (Isa. lix. 12.) O God, grant us rightly to understand our fallen state, and the covenant of our redemption; that we may commit ourselves unto Him, who being made man, and dying for the sins of the world, has obtained for them that love him, pardon and peace. Let us take his yoke upon us, and learn of Him; for His yoke is easy, and He is able to free us from the bondage of our sins. O let us yield ourselves unto His guidance, for he alone hath shewn us what is the perfect and acceptable will of God, and hath enabled us to become conformed thereunto, according to the power wherewith He is able to subdue all things unto Himself.

Grant, O Heavenly Father, that through the help and teaching of thy Holy Spirit of truth Christ may be enthroned in our hearts, and be pleased so to strengthen our weakness this day, that we may walk

worthy of the vocation wherewith we have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering,-forbearing one another in love, endeavouring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. O Lord, make us to prosper in Thy way: that we may become strong in Thee, and in the power of Thy might, striving to attain unto the perfect man in the knowledge of Thy Son:-even unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.

O God of mercy, look down we pray Thee on our relations and friends, and sustain them with the light of Thy truth, and the comfort of Thy Grace.

Keep, O Lord, we beseech Thee, Thy Church with Thy perpetual mercy. Let Thy gracious favour rest upon the Queen, and all who are in authority under her; and grant that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered by Thy governance that all strifes and divisions may cease in this land.
