MORAYSHIRE-MORETONHAMPSTEAD AND SOUTH DEVON. 219

By 24 Vic., cap. 30 (17th May, 1861), the company was authorised to extend its line over the river Spey, forming a junction with the Strathspey at Craigellachie. Length, 51 chains. New capital, 20,0007. in 107. shares, and 6,6007. on loan. Opened 1st July, 1863. Arrangements with Great North of Scotland, Keith and Dufftown, and Strathspey. Productive, 21 miles 53 chains.

By 26 and 27 Vic.. cap. 210 (28th July, 1863), the company was authorised to create new capital to the extent of 25,0007, in 107 shares, at 5 per cent., and 8,3001. on loan. Also to contribute to communication by sea from Lossiemouth (otherwise than by steam vessels) to Caithness, to the extent of 6001. per annum.

By 29 Vic., cap. 30 (18th May, 1866), the company was anthorised to create and issue new shares (in lieu of others cancelled) at a preference of 5 per cent. Also to create debenture stock at the same rate of interest.

By 29 and 30 Vic., cap. 288 (30th July, 1866), the Morayshire obtained power to amalgamate with the Great North of Scotland on terms to be agreed upon.

REVENUE.-The following is an abstract of receipts and expenditure for the year ending 30th September, 1870:-Passenger traffic, including composition tickets, 3,6887.; parcels, horses, carriages, &c., 1321.; mails, 1607.; merchandise (less cartages), 2,4351.; live stock, 1154; minerals, 1,4791.; special and miscellaneous receipts, 3167.; total, 8,3271. Working expenses, 3,611.; land payments, feu-duties, &c., 3031.; public burdens, 3281.; general expenses, 398.; total, 4,641. Net revenue, 3,686.; from which had to be deducted interest for the year on mortgage and debenture loan, on temporary loans, and on capital floating debt account, leaving a surplus (including last year's balance of 137.) of 931. The revenue is sufficient to meet all expenses, including interest on debentures, with balance of 1,8187., and also the interest on the temporary loans and floating debt accounts, with a surplus of 937. The gross revenue exceeded that of 1869 by 3651.

CAPITAL-There has been no expenditure on this account during the year, and the directors do not anticipate any further expenditure on capital account in the meantime beyond the adjustment of some outstanding parliamentary, law, and other accounts, a proportion of which may be chargeable to capital.

Capital, 105,000l. in 107. shares and 35,0007. on loan. Arrangements with South Devon, which grants a rebate on 25,000l., equal to 5 per cent. per annum. Opened 4th July, 1866.

The report for August stated that the traffic continued to make satisfactory progress. and that the net increase over the corresponding period of last year amounted to 881. The hostile clauses in the Bill introduced by the Teign Valley had been

withdrawn and the works on the line suspended. In the absence of information as to the intentions of that company, the consideration of the propriety of constructing a station at Jew's Bridge, for the accommodation of Chudleigh, remained in abeyance. CAPITAL.-The expenditure on this account to 30th June, 1870, amounted to 154,6777, the receipts having been detailed as follow:

The line is the sole property of Lord Lanesborough, and is intended to facilitate the working of certain valuable granite quarries in the immediate vicinity of the town. 227.-NANTWICH AND MARKET DRAYTON. Incorporated by 24 Vic., cap. 44 (7th June, 1861), to construct a line from the London and North Western, at Nantwich, to Market Drayton. Length, 104 miles, single line. Capital, 60,0001. in 20. shares; loans, 20,000. Opened 19th October, 1863. By 27 and 28 Vic., cap. 152 (30th June, 1861), the company obtained an increase of capital to the extent of 60,000/. in shares, and 20,000l. on loan. These shares were created and issued on 31st August, 1865, the whole being guaranteed 44 per cent. by the Great Western.

It was announced in August that the directors had nothing further to report respecting the proposed amalgamation with the Great Western, as the latter had made no proposition on the subject, nor were the directors aware that an amalgamation had yet taken place between the Great Western and the Wellington and Drayton pursuant to the agreement entered into between those companies.

228.-NAVAN AND KINGSCOURT.

Incorporated by 28 and 29 Vic., cap. 350 (5th July, 1865), to construct a railway from Navan, on the Dublin and Meath, to Kingscourt. Length, 11 miles. Capital, 120,000 in shares, and 40,000l. on loan. Arrangements with Dublin and Meath, which may subscribe 40,000%.

By 30 and 31 Vic., cap. 146 (15th July, 1867), the company obtained power to make certain deviations, as well as an extension of time for completion of works till 15th July, 1871. The number of directors was also increased from five to seven.

By 33 and 34 Vic., cap. 107 (4th July, 1870), an extension of time for three years was obtained for completion of works. Also power to enter into agreements with the Dublin and Meath and the Midland Great Western.

Application is being made to Parliament for certain deviations, abandonments, and extensions. Also to enter into arrangements with the Dublin and Meath and the Midland Great Western.
