PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION ENCOURAGED by the generous reception accorded to the first edition of this work and by the solicitations of many of my students, the present edition represents an attempt to gather together in one volume a survey of the whole field of marine insurance history, law and practice. It would be foolish to suggest that every ramification of the business has been comprehensively covered, and the earnest student is referred to such standard works as the following if he desires intensively to pursue his studies:
