PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION.

IN preparing for publication the present Edition of the late Mr Hendry's "Manual of Conveyancing," the text, except in a very few instances, which are mentioned where they occur, has been printed as in the former one-the additions which were thought necessary, in consequence of decisions of the Court or of statutory changes in the law, being made in separate notes. In reprinting the original notes of authorities, references to the corresponding passages in the fifth edition of Professor Bell's Commentaries and in the third edition of Professor Menzies' Lectures have been added (within parentheses), which may be found useful; and the numbers of the sections of Mr Dickson's Treatise on the Law of Evidence (second edition) have been substituted for the references to the volume and page. Wherever Professor Bell's Commentaries are cited in the additional notes, the reference is to the fifth edition. In connection with this part of the work, I have much pleasure in acknowledging the valuable assistance which I have received from my friend Mr Charles Rampini, Advocate, who compared and corrected the original
