Prisoners of hope, arise,
And see your

Lord

appear : Lo! on the wings of love he flies,

And brings redemption near. Redemption through his blood,

He calls you to receive. “ Look unto me, the pard'ning God!

Mourner,” he cries, “ Believe."

ASCRIPTIONS OF PRAISE.

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

I sought the Lord and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

The Lord redeemeth the soul of His servants; and none of them that trust in Him shall be desolate.

Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.

Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens, and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. How excellent is thy loving kindness, O Lord! Therefore the children of men (may) put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. Thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. For with Thee is the fountain of life. In thy light we shall see light. According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth; thy right hand is full of righteousness.

O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. Unto thee, oh, my strength, will I sing, for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.

Thy loving kindness is better than life: my lips shall praise Thee. When I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night-watches, my soul shall be satisfied, and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.

Thou, O God, hast proved us, thou hast tried us as silver is tried. Come and hear, (all ye that mourn) all ye that fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul.

Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.

I cried unto him with my voice, and He was extolled with my tongue.

Verily, God hath heard me: He hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, who hath not turned away my prayer nor His mercy from me.

Blessed be the name of the Lord, from this time forth for evermore. Praise the Lord!

Yes, mourning souls, be sure
God gives much peace on earth, much holy joy ;-
Opes fountains of perennial spring, whence flow
Abundant happiness to all that wish
To drink: not perfect bliss, that dwells above,
Beneath the eyelids of the Eternal One,
And sits at his right-band alone; but such
As well deserves the name, abundant joy ;
Pleasures, on which the memory of saints
Of highest glory, may delight to dwell.

PolloK's Course of Time.

H

DEJECTION.

“Why standest Thou so far off, O God?”

Psalm ix. 1.

Such is frequently the pathetic question of a soul in trouble, when the Almighty seems to hide himself, behind clouds and darkness. But let not such sufferers think themselves deserted. The trial is indeed a severe one, but assuredly intended to excite and to perfect three most important Christian graces :Humility, Resignation, and Faith. When inclined to droop and faint under this chastisement of our heavenly Father, let us think of him who, in strong agony, once uttered those awful words, “ My God! my God! why hast thou forsaken me.” Ah ! let this affecting thought guard us from despondency, and teach us to bow in patient submission in seasons of calamity, grief, and pain.
