it shall be a wise man or a fool that shall be after him. ECCLES. ix. 5.-The memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. We brought nothing into the world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. REV. xiv. 13. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them. PHIL. i. 21.-For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. I have a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better. PSALM xxxvii. 37.—Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace. PSALM lxxiii. 26.-My flesh and my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. PSALM Xxiii. 4.-Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. ROMANS Viii. 38.-I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is Christ Jesus our Lord. 2 COR. iv. 16. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2 TIM. i. 12.-I know in whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him, against that day. ISAIAH xliii. 2.-When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire thou shalt not be burnt; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour. LUKE Xxiii. 43.-Jesus said, This day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

O God, by whom the whole world is governed and preserved, we, thine unworthy creatures, under a thankful sense of thy providential care, humbly

draw nigh unto thee to offer our morning sacrifice of prayer and praise. We thank thee, that thou hast protected us from all the dangers of the night; O continue thy goodness to us through this day, and preserve us from all dangers both of soul and body. Thou art about our path, as about our bed, and spiest out all our ways: there is not a thought in our hearts, but thou knowest it altogether. If there be any thing there which offendeth thee, O Lord, enable us by thy grace to discover and cast it out, that we may come before thee with the preparation of a clean heart, and a right mind. We thank thee, heavenly Father, for thy patience and forbearance, and for all the time which thou hast given us, though we have greatly wasted and misused it. Make us to remember, that every day is thy gift, and to be used in thy service, and in doing the work of our salvation. O may we have time and grace to finish our appointed task, before the night cometh, in which no work may be done. Lord, spare us yet longer, that we may be better prepared to meet thee at the last day.

We acknowledge, O God, thy numberless mercies vouchsafed to us, and to all mankind; O make us duly thankful for them all; and teach us to show forth thy praise not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days. Enable us to resist the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil:

and dispose us to follow, in all things, the motions of thy good Spirit, not trusting to our own strength or wisdom, but looking to thee for grace to establish us in every good word and work. Increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; assist us to watch and pray; that we may continue thine for ever, and daily increase in thy Holy Spirit more and more, till we come to thine everlasting kingdom.

Be pleased, O Lord, to receive our humble intercessions for all orders and degrees of men; for all that are in authority, that they may be thy ministers to us for good; for the appointed teachers of thy Word, that they may be true pastors of thy flock; and for all the members of thy Church: that all may faithfully serve thee in their several stations, and adorn the doctrine of God their Saviour in all things. We beseech thee, also, to have mercy upon all those who have not yet known thee; and who are yet servants of the world and sin. Take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of thy Word; and save them, together with us, through Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Redeemer. Amen.

Our Father, &c.

Saturday Noon.

[Or, with a Collect, for the Morning or Evening.]

ACTS xxvi. 8-Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead? 1 COR. XV. 13. But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 1 THESS. iv. 14. -Now if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words. 1 COR. XV. 35.-But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain; it may chance of wheat, or some other grain: So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory: It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. ACTS xxiv. 15.—I have hope toward God, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. JOHN v. 28.-The hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. ISAIAH

xxvi. 19. The dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in the dust; for thy dew is as the dew of herbs: and the earth shall cast out the dead. DANIEL xii. 2.-Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth, shall awake; some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. JOB XIX. 26,-Though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God; whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another. 1 COR. xv. 54. -Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory." JOB xix. 25.—I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God; whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another. PSALM Xvi. 9.-My flesh shall rest in hope.

O LORD, the great and glorious God, infinite in power, wisdom, and goodness, who hast created all things by thy Almighty hand, thou sustainest and orderest all that thou hast made by thy wise and righteous providence; and thy mercy is everlasting, and over all thy works.

But we have made unworthy returns for thy great and continued goodness. With the guilt of our inbred corruption hanging heavy upon us, we are amazed at the greatness and multitude of all our other sins, that we have committed against the light of thy Gospel, the strivings of thy Spirit, and the love and sufferings of thy Son. We have nothing to plead, blessed Lord, but thy own gracious nature, and the many promises which thou hast made to returning sinners in Jesus Christ. O for
