had been resident as hereinbefore required : Provided always, That
such special license shall be of no force unless the same shall be
acted upon within Eight clear Days after the date of the same.

8. Registration

And be it Enacted, That in all cases the registration of Mar-
tive Evidence riage by the parties contracting the Marriage signing the register, 5
of Marriage. or by the transmission to the Registrar of a certificate of the so-

lemnization under the band of the Clergyman who celebrated the
same, signed also by the persons so solemnizing their Marriage, and by
Two Witnesses present at the solemnization thereof, shall be conclusive
evidence that the parties registering their Marriage were married par- 10
ties at the time of completing such registration.

9. Marriage of Jews and Quakers not affected.

Provided always, and be it Enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained shall affect the validity of any Marriage between the parties
both of whom are of the Jewish religion, where such Marriage has
been solemnized according to the rites and forms observed by persons 15
professing the Jewish religion, or the validity of

any Marriage between
parties both of whom are Quakers, where such Marriage has been
solemnized by the rites or forms observed by the Society of Friends
commonly called Quakers.

10. Nothing here And be it Enacted, That nothing herein contained shall affect or 20 in to affect validity of impair the validity of any Marriage, or the effect of any claim of any reisisting Marriage, existing or competent previous to the passing of this Act, Legitimation or in anywise affect the legitimation of any child or children by by subsequent Marriage. Marriage of the parents of such child or children subsequent to the birth of such child or children.

11. Marriage by Parties under legal Disability not valid.

Provided always, and be it Enacted, That nothing herein contained shall be held to render valid any Marriage where both or either of the parties thereto are or is under any legal impediment or disability to the contraction of such Marriage.

12. Alteration of Act.

And be it Enacted, That this Act may be amended or repealed by any Act to be passed during the present Session of Parliament.

To amend the Laws relating to the Relief and Support, in certain Cases, of Merchant Seamen, their Widows and Children.

HERE as an Act was passed in the twentieth year

of Preamble : the reign of his Majesty King George the Second, inti- 20 G. 2, c. 38. tuled, “ An Act for the Relief and Support of Maimed and Disabled Seamen, and the Widows and Children of such as shall be killed, slain or drowned in the Merchant Service ;” and which Act is hereinafter referred to as the Merchant Seamen's Fund Act:

And whereas an Act was passed in the Session of Parliament held in the fourth and fifth years of the reign of his late Majesty 4 & 5 W.4,

King William the Fourth, intituled, “ An Act to amend an Act of 10 the twentieth year of his Majesty King GEORGE the Second, for the

Relief and Support of Sick, Maimed and Disabled Seamen, and the Widows and Children of such as shall be killed, slain or drowned in the Merchant Service, and for other Purposes ;” and which is

hereinafter referred to as the Merchant Seamen's Fund Amendment 15 Act; and the said Acts have been found insufficient, and it is

expedient to make new provision in lieu thereof, for the purposes of the said Acts, or some of them :

And whereas the Master, Wardens and Assistants of the Guild,

Fraternity or Brotherhood of the most glorious and undivided Trinity 20 and of Saint Clement, in the parish of Deptford Strond, in the county

of Kent, has from a remote period been constituted for (amongst other public purposes) the relief of poor Mariners, their widows and orphans, and has existed during several centuries and still continues

to be a corporation under the denomination of the Corporation of the
Trinity House of Deptford Strond :

And whereas it is expedient that the Merchant Seamen's Fund and
the management thereof should, subject to the provisions of this
Act, be transferred to and vested in the said Corporation of the
Trinity House as trustees thereof;

Second Proviso.

26 it therefore Enacted, by The QUEEN's most Excellent
MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords
Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament
assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT the said
Merchant Seamen's Fund Act and the said Merchant Seamen's Fund
Amendment Act be hereby repealed: Provided always, That so
much of an Act passed in the thirty-seventh year of his Majesty
King George the Third, intituled, “ An Act for preventing the
Desertion of Seamen froin British Merchant Ships trading to his

Majesty's Colonies and Plantations Abroad,” as was repealed by the
said recited Act of the fourth and fifth William the Fourth, shall
stand repealed: Provided further, That all offences which shall have
been committed, and all penalties and forfeitures which shall have
been incurred, and all payments and duties to which any party shall 20
have become liable previous to the commencement of this Act, under
the provisions of the said Acts, shall and may be punishable and
recoverable under the said Acts as if the same had not been
repealed, although such payments and duties shall not in conse-
quence of such liability have become actually receivable until after

the passing of this Act : Provided also, That the President and
Governors of the Corporation for the relief and support of sick,
maimed and disabled Seamen, and of the Widows of such as shall
be killed, slain or drowned in the Merchant Service, and the
several bodies of trustees at the outports empowered by the 30
Merchant Seamen's Fund Amendment Act to receive, collect and
apply the monies receivable by virtue of the said recited Act in the
manner thereby directed, shall, notwithstanding the repeal thereof,
retain the powers thereby vested in them, so far as may be necessary
to enable them to perform such acts as are hereinafter directed 35
to be performed by them.

2. President and And be it Enacted, That on or before the Thirty-first day of Governors, and Outport

December, or at such other time or times as the said Corporation of Trustees to

the Trinity House of Deptford Strond shall by any writing or writings transfer and pay over their under their common seal direct, the said President and Governors, 40 Funds and Monies to the and the said several bodies of trustees respectively shall transfer Trinity House of Deptford to the said Corporation of the Trinity House to a stock account Strond. to be opened in that behalf in the books of the Bank of England,
