For altering the Conditions upon which Money may be

issued out of the Consolidated Fund towards the Support
of the Metropolitan Police.

C. 89.

HEREDS by an Act passed in the Session of Parliament Preamble :

holden in the third and fourth years of the reign of his late 36.4 Will. 4, Majesty, intituled, “ An Act to authorize the Issue of a Suin of

Money out of the Consolidated Fund towards the Support of the 5 Metropolitan Police,” it was enacted, that part of the sums neces

sary to defray the charge of maintaining the Police of the Metropolis should be paid from the Consolidated Fund of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, upon certain conditions applicable to

the parishes and places then within the Metropolitan Police district, 10 and in the manner therein mentioned, subject to a limitation of the

amount so to be issued in any one year to the sum of Sixty thousand Pounds :

And whereas by an Act of the second and third years of Her 2 & 3 Vict. Majesty, intituled, “An Act for further improving the Police in and

c. 47, s. 3. 15 near the Metropolis,” it was enacted, that in every case in which,

after the passing of that Act, any parish, township, precinct or place, or any part thereof, should become part of the Metropolitan Police District, it should be lawful for the Lord High Treasurer, or Three or

more Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, to direct the issue 20 out of the said Consolidated Fund of an additional yearly sum, not greater in each case than the amount of Two-pence in the Pound 357

upon the additional rental assessed to the Metropolitan Police, by reason of such addition, to be paid and applied in aid of the charge of maintaining the Police of the Metropolis, upon the same conditions, with respect to the district so added to the Metropolitan Police District, as the issue of a sum not exceeding Sixty thousand Pounds out of the Consolidated Fund was authorized with respect to the parishes and places then already within the Metropolitan Police District, by the said firstly recited Act :

And whereas, by reason of changes in the valuations acted upon in assessing the county rate in parts of the Metropolitan Police District, 10 the conditions of the said firstly recited Act have become unequal in their operations and burdensome on some of the parishes and places within such district; and such conditions may by reason of the like changes become burdensome on other parishes and places within such district;

BBC it therefore Enacted, by The QUEEN's most Excellent Ma-

Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by
the Authority of the same, THAT upon the certificate of one of Her
Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, that the Overseers of the 20

in the warrant of the Commissioners of Police of the Metropolis, on
the full annual value of all property rateable within such parish, town-
ship, precinct or place, rated according to the provisions of the said
last-mentioned Act, towards the discharge of any warrant of the said
Commissioners, issued after or which shall not have become due 35
before the passing of this Act for maintaining the Police of the
Metropolis for the Six Months next ensuing, the Commissioners of
Her Majesty's Treasury, or any Three or more of them, shall direct,
by warrant under their hands and seals, such a sum for and in addition
to every Three-pence, or such other lesser sum in the Pound as shall 40
be specified in the warrants of the said Commissioners of Police, so
raised and paid as aforesaid, to be issued and paid from the Consoli-
dated Fund of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland to
the receiver appointed under the said last-mentioned Act, as may be

required, in addition to the sum raised by such Three-pence or other lesser sum in the Pound as shall be specified in the warrants of the said Commissioners of Police, to defray the charge of maintaining the

Police of the Metropolis ; and no such parish, township, precinct or 5 place, having paid all arrears, and such Three-pence or other lesser

sum in the Pound as aforesaid, shall be subject to any further higher charge towards defraying the charge of the Police during the period of Sir Months from the date of any such warrant.

And be it Enacted, That it shall be lawful for the Commissioners Parishes

added to the 10 of Her Majesty's Treasury, or any Three or more of them, by Metropolitan

3. Provided always, and be it Enacted, That no larger sum than Sixty Sums adthousand Pounds, and such further sum as may be issued by virtue of 25 the provisions of the said Act passed in the second and third years of 60,0001., and

4. 30 Provided also, and be it Enacted, That nothing in this Act con Powers of

5. And be it Enacted, That the Receiver of the Metropolitan Police Application

the money. and accounting for such sum or sums as shall be issued and paid to him out of the Consolidated Fund under this Act, be subject to the same regulations and provisions to which he is subject under the said Acts of the tenth year of the reign of his Majesty King George 357.
