By adding after the word "work" in the eighth line thereof the words "the engineer".

By adding after the word "charges" in the tenth line thereof the words "and those of the other members of the board".

16. Subsection 2 of section 30: By adding after the word "engineer" in the fifth line thereof the words "and the board".

17. Section 39: By adding thereto the following subsection:

"Nothing in this Act shall be deemed conflicting with any rights which may be conferred upon the Dominion Government in connection with the drainage of lands under the control of the Dominion Government by any Act passed dealing particularly with the drainage of such lands."

18. Form G in the schedule: By striking out the words and figures"(Section 15 (2))" and by substituting therefor the words and figures "(Section 15 (4))".

By striking out the word "Engineer" in the title and substituting therefor the word "Board".

By adding after the word "and" where it occurs the first time in the fifteenth line thereof the following words:

"we (names of members of board) duly appointed as members of the board of assessors under the provisions of The Private Ditches Act."

By striking out the word "I" in the twenty-fourth, thirty-second and thirty-eighth lines thereof and substituting therefor the word "we".

By striking out the word "my" in the forty-sixth line thereof and substituting therefor the word "our".

By adding thereto below the words "Signature of Engineer" two spaces for signatures over the following words in each case: "Signature of Member of Board".

CHAPTER 32.

An Act to amend the Act respecting Seed Grain, Fodder and other Relief.

(Assented to April 5, 1917.)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:

1. Section 3 of chapter 14 of the Statutes of Alberta, 1915, is amended by adding thereto the following provisoes: "Provided that such charge shall not, as to any lands acquired by such person after the date of the creation of the charge, apply save as to the interest of such person therein, and shall not have priority over mortgages, liens or other encumbrances registered against such lands prior to the date of acquisition:

"Provided also that if any such charge is not entered in the register as hereinafter provided prior to the first day of January, 1917, it shall not have priority over any instrument registered prior to the entry in the register of such charge."

2. Subsection 4 of section 4 of said Act is hereby repealed.

3. Section 6 of said Act is amended by adding thereto the following subsection:

"(2) In any case where he deems it expedient to do so, the Minister may by letter direct any registrar of land titles to enter a memorandum in the execution docket or in the seed grain docket, as the case may be, to the effect that any part or parts of the lands and crops of the person mentioned in such letter is or are released from all liens under this Act, or that such liens are postponed so as to rank next after any mortgage or other instrument by way of charge registered against the real property of such person, and upon receipt of such letter the registrar shall make such memorandum accordingly, and thereafter such part or parts of such lands and crops shall be absolutely released and discharged from all liens and claims under this Act, or such liens and claims shall be postponed accordingly, as the case may be."

CHAPTER 33.

An Act to amend The Agricultural Societies Ordinance.

(Assented to April 5, 1917.)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:

The Agricultural Societies Ordinance, being chapter 69 of the Ordinances of 1898, is amended as follows:

1. Section 2: By adding thereto the following clause: "4. 'Association of individuals' means and includes any association of persons who are organized with the consent of the Minister of Agriculture, having for the object of their association the holding of an exhibition, show or fair under this Ordinance, or are otherwise recognized by the Minister as being organized under this Ordinance for any other purpose."

2. Section 27: By adding thereto the following subsection:

"(2) Every association of individuals and the secretary, or where there is no secretary the president of every society, exhibition, show or fair, shall before receiving any grant under this Ordinance file with the Department of Agriculture such returns or other information, together with balance sheet certified by an official auditor."

3. Section 33: (a) By adding to subsection 2 the following:

"For the purposes of obtaining any grant under this section every horticultural exhibition, poultry show or seed fair held between the 30th day of November and the 1st day of March next following shall be considered as being held during the winter period of that year and the respective grants to same may be paid without fine, notwithstanding the returns of such exhibition, poultry show or seed fair have been received by the Department subsequent to the date mentioned in this Ordinance for filing returns, provided such returns are otherwise in accordance with this Ordinance."

(b) By adding to subsection 4 the following:

Any grant under the section which is payable to an association of individuals holding a seed grain fair, a horticultural show, or a poultry show, may be paid when the returns (if any) under this Act are filed with the department.

(c) By adding to subsection 5 the following:

"No such association of individuals or agricultural society shall hold more than one of each such shows or exhibitions in any winter period, but grants may be paid notwithstanding the fact that a grant may have already been paid during the then current calendar year."
