LETTER from the Rev. W. B. CLARKE, to the Honourable the COLONIAL SECRETARY, on the Geology of the Clarence District and the adjoining regions.

SIR,

REPORT No. IX.

Coolambarra, County of Stanley,
June 24, 1853.

IN my last Report, dated 7th May, I expressed an intention of completing my barometrical section from the interior to the tidal waters, on a due west and east course; and a hope, that I might, thereafter, be able to report on the geology of the Clarence River district.

I have now the honour of stating for the information of His Excellency the Governor General, that, having completed a double section between the interior and the dividing range, in about 29°40' south, after the delay of a week, which was required for the purposes of rest and the completion of my last Report, I started to the eastward, and, I am happy to add, successfully accomplished my intention, carrying, without accident, the same instruments throughout both journeys, which extended in direct distances, to and fro, 334 miles, the mean section being 150 miles in length.
