An Act respecting the Provincial Museum of Natural History and Anthropology.

[21st February, 1913.]

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

Short Title.

1. This Act may be cited as the "Provincial Museum Act."

2. The buildings situated in the City of Victoria, and known as "Provincial the "Provincial Museum," shall be the Provincial Museum for the purposes of this Act.

3. The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may from time to time Additional facilities. arrange for the erection of such additional building or buildings and for the purchase of such property as may be deemed necessary for the better carrying-out of this Act: Provided always that the necessary expenditure shall have been sanctioned by the Legislative Assembly.

4. The objects of the Provincial Museum shall be:-
(a.) To secure and preserve specimens illustrating the natural
history of the Province:

(b.) To collect anthropological material relating to the aborig-
inal races of the Province:

(c.) To obtain information respecting the natural sciences relating particularly to the natural history of the Province, and to increase and diffuse knowledge regarding the same.

General objects.

The Director of the

5. The Provincial Museum shall, subject to the authority of the Provincial Secretary, be under the control of an officer called the "Director of the Provincial Museum" (hereinafter called "the Director"), who shall be responsible for carrying out the objects. and purposes of the Provincial Museum as provided by section 4 of this Act, and who shall have authority over the persons mentioned in section 7 of this Act.

6. The Director shall make a report to the Provincial Secretary on the thirty-first day of December in each year; such report shall detail the work performed during the calendar year, and shall contain such other information respecting the Provincial Museum as may be considered of general interest.

7. The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may appoint such other officers, clerks, attendants, or employees as may be necessary for the proper carrying-out of this Act: Provided that the salaries of the said persons shall have been voted by the Legislative Assembly.

8. The Director and every person under his control shall be subject to all statutory provisions, rules, and regulations applying to the Civil Service of the Province and for the time being in force.

9. The Provincial Museum, or such portion thereof as may be convenient, shall be open to the public without charge at such times as the Provincial Secretary may direct.

10. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in any other Act, any person may be authorized in writing by the Director to secure and have in possession or to secure and export specimens of mammals, birds, eggs, or fishes for scientific purposes only, for a period not to exceed six months.

11. The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may from time to time make rules or regulations respecting the Provincial Museum not inconsistent with the provisions of this Act.

1. This Act may be cited as the "Mount Robson Park Act."

2. The tract of land comprised within the limits hereinafter Limits of park described that is to say: Commencing at the point where the line of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway crosses the boundary between the Provinces of Alberta and British Columbia; thence northwesterly along the said boundary to a point due north of Mount Longstaff; thence south to a point due west of the north-east corner of Lot 5668, Cariboo District; thence east to the north-east corner of said Lot 5668; thence south to the south boundary of the watershed of the South Fork of the Fraser River; thence easterly along said boundary to the boundary between the Provinces of Alberta and British Columbia; thence northerly along the said boundary to the point of commencement-is hereby withdrawn from sale, settlement, and occupancy under the provisions of the "Land Act," or any other Act with respect to mining or any other matter, except with the consent of the Lieutenant-Governor in Council.

3. The said tract of land is hereby reserved and set apart as a public park and pleasure-ground for the benefit, advantage, and enjoyment of the people of British Columbia, subject to the provisions of this Act and of the regulations hereinafter mentioned, and shall be known as Mount Robson Park."
