IN offering to the profession a fourth edition of the PHILADELPHIA MEDICAL REGISTER AND DIRECTORY, the Editor has endeavored to make it, as far as possible, a complete guide on all those points relative to medicine which would be likely to claim the especial attention of the practitioner. For this purpose he has thought it best to include brief notices of certain associations and hospitals not in the city, but which are of great importance, and concerning which he has been frequently consulted by his fellow-practitioners. By the aid of an extremely careful canvass, a large correspondence, and the kindness of many warm friends, he believes that he has succeeded in preparing a volume, the accuracy of which may be relied upon.
