June 19 The employees concerned in this dispute ceased work on May 1, on account of a proposed reduction in their rate of pay. Application was later made by the employees for the establishment of a board. Whilst communications were passing between the department and the employees an officer of the department proceeded to St. Thomas at the minister's request, for the purpose of conferring with the parties concerned. As a result, the company restored the scale of wages which had existed prior to May 1, 1911, and announced its willingness to reengage those who had ceased work. Oct. 28 A unanimous report was presented by the board which was favorable to the employees concerned and was accepted on their behalf. The company, in a letter dated Nov. 2, declined to accept the board's findings. On Oct. 6, the company's shops at Edmonton and Rivers were closed down, and the employees concerned declared a strike on Oct. 10, which continued until Dec. 13, 1912, when an agreement was reached by the parties concerned.1 6,500 direct, 6,500 indirect.
