upon that covenant of mercy, whereby thou art reconciled unto us in Jesus Christ. Awaken, O Lord, within us such a lively sense of our need of Him, and work in us such a disposition to rest upon Him as our only Saviour, that we may be Christians in spirit and life, as well as in name and by profession. Help us to remember the promises we have all made when we were baptized into his death, and to keep those vows which we have since renewed, to withstand the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil. Teach us to find our chief happiness in thy love and service, to worship thee in spirit and in truth,

and to trust in thee at all times. May we also express and adorn our holy religion, by being careful to maintain good works in those things which are good and profitable unto men. Be favourable, O Lord, to all our fellow-creatures; more particularly to our friends, and neighbours, and countrymen. Bless our King, and all persons in authority: give them grace to rule according to thy laws, and to be themselves examples of piety and virtue. Be gracious also to all those who are in subjection under them, dispose them to be obedient out of love and for conscience sake; that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives in all

godliness and honesty. Now unto Him, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see; to Him be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

If thou, Lord, wert extreme to mark what we have done amiss, we could never abide thy judgment! Glory be unto thee, that there is so great mercy with thee, as to encourage unworthy creatures like ourselves still to fear and love thee. ask to be forgiven, and we seek to be accepted, not for our righteousness, but for that Saviour's merits, whom thou hast set forth to be the propitiation for our sins. grace of thy Holy Spirit, to amend our lives according to thy word, to lead them according to thy will, and to conclude them in thy peace, through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THANKSGIVING.

O ETERNAL GOD, who hast made us thy children again by adoption and grace, we adore thee for the infinite riches of thy goodness to us in Jesus Christ. We thank thee for all the blessings we enjoy in common with our fellow-men and fellow-Christians; for all the mercies of our creation, preservation, and redemption. We have also to praise thee more particu
