and in order to do so the more effectually, each service is divided into three distinct parts, and consists of a Confession, a Thanksgiving, and a Prayer. The order of these is a little varied, as it seemed to suit best respectively with the circumstances of Morning and Evening: but there is no deviation from the general plan.

there is always of course a call upon those who are met together to offer their common supplications, to express aloud each for himself a particular interest in all that is said by the member who officiates. this means it is hoped that the attention may often be kept fixed, or recalled to its right object from time to time, when it has begun to wander from it. If this be found to be a help towards so important an end, surely it is but wise that we should use it more than we do.

To those who know the value of this sort of method from the constant use of our Liturgy in public, and of Bishop Andrews's Devotions in private, it may seem extraordinary that it has not been applied more to improve our Family prayers. We praise thee for all thy goodness to us, which never fails, and is above all that we can know or think; but especially for the great tokens of it, which we commemorate this day, in the creation and redemption of the world by Jesus Christ. Grant, O Lord, that,
