PREFATORY NOTE.

THIS volume has been compiled under the provisions of the act entitled "An act to authorize a subscription on the part of this State to a supplement to the Revision of the Statutes of New Jersey,' published in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven," approved April 5, 1886, and contains all the public acts of the Legislature of this State now contained in "Appendix A," and in the "Addenda" of said Revision, and all the public acts of said Legislature which are general and permanent in their nature, passed between the time of publishing said Revision and January 1, 1887. The volume also contains all the acts concerning municipal corporations, found on pages 710 to 725 of the Revision, which acts have been republished so that they may appear in their proper places in the system of classification herein adopted. The system of classification adopted for the acts that affect municipal corporations, is this: All acts relating exclusively to boroughs and villages are placed under the title "Boroughs and Villages"; all relating exclusively to seaside governments are placed under the title "Seaside Governments"; all relating exclusively to townships are placed under the title "Townships"; and all relating exclusively to cities, or exclusively to towns, or to any two or more of the classes of municipalities, are placed under the title "Municipal Corporations."

A classified list of all the acts and joint resolutions, general, special, public, local and private, which are contained in the pamphlet laws of 1876 to 1886, both inclusive, and which have not been published in full either in this volume or in the first 1260 pages of the Revision, will be found in the "List of Omitted Acts" at the end of this volume.
