PREFACE.

AS IN previous years the greatest care has been exercised by the publishers of the "Digest" to see that Cases that are of value to the members of the Profession, amongst whom the work enjoys the widest circulation, are included in the issue for 1916. Numerous Cases that are of considerable importance to Auctioneers and Surveyors, which have been reported in THE ESTATES GAZETTE, will be found to have been dealt with, these covering the wide ground of Agricultural Holdings, Commission, Compensation, Housing and Town Planning, Aircraft Insurance, Defence of the Realm Regulations, Increase of Rent (War Restrictions) Act, and Courts (Emergency Powers) Act, together with subjects relating to legal matters which concern Agents, Auctioneers, Rating Surveyors and Property Owners. These have been specially prepared with a view of bringing out the points that are of the greatest moment. Special attention has been paid to cases arising under The Finance (1909-10) Act, 1910, Finance Act, 1912, and also to Rating Cases; and, in addition to the matter taken from THE ESTATES GAZETTE, we have, through the courtesy of the proprietors of the "Law Journal" Reports, had free access to that work in order to include details of any action considered of interest to the profession. Every effort has been taken to make the work a good medium for consultation and reference for all connected with the combined Professions.

February, 1917.
