Advice and Information on the Curriculum.

The Student of Medicine can begin professional studies in the University by entering at the beginning either of the Winter Session, or of the Summer Session. The former is the more usual and convenient course.

Preliminary Examination.

Before beginning medical studies, every student is required to have passed one of the Preliminary Examinations in subjects of general education recognised by the General Medical Council. These subjects which must have been passed at one and the same examination are the following:-(1) English (Grammar; Paraphrasing: Composition; questions on English History and Geography). (2) Latin (Grammar; Translation into English from unprescribed Latin books; Translation into Latin of a continuous English passage, and of short idiomatic English sentences). (3) Mathematics (Arithmetic; Algebra, including easy quadratic equations); Geometry, including the subject matter of Euclid, Books I., II., and III., and simple deductions. (4) One of the following subjects-a) Greek (Grammar; Translation into English from unprescribed Greek books; Translation. into Greek of short idiomatic English sentences); or (b) a Modern Language (Grammar; Translation into English from unprescribed books; Translation of a continuous English passage and of short idiomatic English sentences).

The Sheffield University requires that before entering on the course for a degree of the University the student shall have passed the Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Board of the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield, or such other Examination as may be recognised for this purpose.

Registration.

For the purpose of Registration, every student on enrolling must produce a certificate of having passed one of the Preliminary Examinations recognised by the General Medical Council. The Dean will then certify that the student has commenced the study of Medicine. Both these certificates must be forwarded to the Registrar of the General Medical Council, in order that the student may be duly registered as a medical student.

Curriculum.

After registration, the student enters on the Medical Curriculum, which will occupy at least five

years.

The following scheme of study is arranged for students who intend to take the degrees of M.B., Ch.B. of the University; it may require some modification, however, to meet the requirements of other examining bodies:
