The Afton Mutual Telephone Co. of Afton, Iowa, has increased its capital stock from $10,000.00 to $25,000.00.

The Idaville Co-Operative Telephone Co. of Idaville, Ind., has incorporated for $9,000.00. The directors are J. B. Wright, J. H. Mourer, T. J. Melvin, T. B. Ginn, William Pearson, A. L. Read and John Reiff.

Telephone Sets Type.

M. Malcotti, an Italian engineer, resident of Brussels, has invented an instrument which he calls a telecriptograph and which will reproduce in print all conversations held over the telephone. He has already secured patents in several European countries and in the United States, where he intends to install his service with the aid of some telephone company. Experiments given in public have demonstrated the wonderful achievement of the young inventor, who claims that his instruments will work without extra wires and apparatus over any ordinary telephone line

Competition for Bell at Toronto.

The board of control of the Toronto (Canada) city council has approved of a draft agreement upon which offers for a competitive telephone service in the city are to be asked. The draft provides that the company whose tender is accepted must deposit with the city $100,000, of which $25,000 will be held after the installation of the system; 2,000 telephones are to be installed within 21 months ofter the contract is signed; the franchise will run for seven years and will be renewable for five year periods thereafter, the city to have the right to appropriate. The wires to be laid underground except in such places as are approved by the city engineer.

The St. Louis, St. Charles and Western Electric Railway has contracted for the equipment of its cars with telephones that can be used when trains are in motion.
