TUESDAY, January 3, 1939.

A message from the Senate, by Mr. Frazier, its legislative clerk, announced that the Senate had adopted the following resolutions:

Resolved, That the Senate has heard with profound sorrow and deep regret the announcement of the death of Hon. ROYAL 8. COPELAND, late a Senator from the State of New York.

Resolved, That the Secretary communicate these resolutions to the House of Representatives and transmit a copy thereof to the family of the deceased.

Resolved, That as a further mark of respect to the memory of the deceased the Senate do now adjourn.

Mr. SULLIVAN. Mr. Speaker, I offer a resolution.

The Clerk read (H. Res. 16) as follows:

Resolved, That the House has heard with profound sorrow of the death of Hon. ROYAL S. COPELAND, a Senator of the United States from the State of New York.

Resolved, That the Clerk communicate these resolutions to the Senate and transmit a copy thereof to the family of the deceased.

The resolution was agreed to.

Mr. RAYBURN. Mr. Speaker, as a further mark of respect for the deceased colleague, I move that the House recess until 12 o'clock noon tomorrow.

The motion was agreed to; accordingly (at 2 o'clock and 33 minutes p. m.) the House stood in recess until tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4, 1939, at 12 o'clock noon.

WEDNESDAY, May 31, 1939.

A message from the Senate, by Mr. St. Claire, one of its clerks, announced that the Senate had passed the following resolutions:

Resolved, That the Senate has heard with profound sorrow of the death of Hon. ROYAL S. COPELAND, late a Senator from the State of New York.

Resolved, That as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased Senator the business of the Senate be now suspended to enable his associates to pay tribute to his high character and distinguished public service.

Resolved, That the Secretary communicate these resolutions to the House of Representatives and transmit a copy thereof to the family of the deceased.

Resolved, That as a further mark of respect to the memory of the deceased the Senate do now adjourn until Wednesday next.
