And now, before his father God,
Pleads the full merit of his blood. 2. Repeated crimes awake our fears,
And justice arm'd with frowns appears ;
smiles, and all is peace. 3. Hence then ye black, despairing thoughts,
our fears, above our faults, His powerful intercessions rise
And guilt recedes, and terror dies. 4. In every dark, distressful hour,
When sin and Satan join their power:
That Jesus bears us on his heart.
On him our humble hopes depend :
Hymn 95. c. M. 1. ITH joy we meditate the grace
His bowels melt with love.
He knows our feeble frame;
For he hath felt the same. 3. He in the days of feeble flesh.
Pour'd out strong cries and tears;, And in his measure feels afresh,
What ev'ry member bears.
But raise it to a flame;
Nor scorns the meanest name.
5. Then let our humble faith address
His mercy and his pow'r;
In the distressing hour.
Hymn 96. C. M. "I lives..
And ever prays for me:
A pledge of liberty.
In all its depth and height,
And grasp the Infinite.
Of paradise possessid,
And everlasting rest.
Hymn 97.. P. M.
God whose glory fills the sky::
Man the well belov'd of heav'n.
Thee we now presume to sing;
Glorious all and numberless.
Hail! thou everlasting Lord;
Lord of pow'r and God of love!
Christ, the Father's only Son;
5. Bow thine ear, in mercy bow,
Hear, the world's atonement thou;
Take, O take our sins away. 6. Pow'rful Advocate with God,
Justify us by thy blood !
Hymn 98. P. M. 1. · A RISE, my soul,
In my behalf appears.
For me to intercede;
His precious blood to plead;
Receiv'd on Calvary: They pour effectual pray'rs,
They strongly speak for me:
His dear anointed One;
The presence of his Son:
• 5. My God is reconcil'd,
His pard’ning voice I hear;
I can no longer fear.
Hymn 99. P. M.
My guilty conscience seeks
Before the throne. 2. My advocate appears,
For my defence on high;
Not all that hell
Hymn 100. L. M. 1. HO shall the Lord's elect condemn ?"
'Tis God that justifies their souls, And mercy, like a mighty stream,
O'er all their sins divinely rolls. 2. Who shall adjudge the saints to hell ?
"Tis Christ that suffer'd in their stead ; And the salvation to fulfil,
Behold him rising from the dead. 3. He lives! he lives! and sits above,
Forever interceding there :
Who shall divide us from his love,
Or what should tempt us to despair ? 4. Shall persecution or distress,
Famine, or sword, or nakedness?
And makes us more than conqu’rors too. 3. Faith hath an overcoming pow'r,
It triumphs in the dying hour ;
Nor can we sink with such a prop.
III, INFLUENCES OF THE SPIRIT OP
Hymn 101, p. u.
Thy goodsess and thy truth we praise,
The spirit of life, and power, and love ;
For which thy word and oath were joind i The promise to our fallen head, To ev'ry child of Adam made,
Is now pour'd out on all mankind. 3. The purchas'd comforter is given, For Jesus is return'd to leaven,
To claim, and then the grace impart :
