TO THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW
COVENANT.

O SON of truth, thou brightest light of love,
Eternal prince of all the hosts above,
Spring up spontaneous, and renew my soul,
Possess me wholly, and my mind control;
Light up the lamp of zeal for doctrines right;
Impel me all to thoughts of heavenward flight,
Unheedful of wrong doing 'neath the sun,
Which hates the light, and will not to thee come.

Why should men shrink from thee? for what? to whom
Else shall we go? what other home,-aioon,-

Than thine can offer comforts-or compare
With thy new heavens and earth and city fair?
The brightest diamonds spangle all her way,
Rear her foundations on refulgent ray,

Glare on the battlements, and embrace each gate
Of pearl, and doors and windows. Heavenly state,
O'erwhelms with living light her throne, her halls,
Her courts, her streets, where golden pavement falls
T'embrace the feet-and bear the lengthened way,
To Judah's king more dazzling in array;

Heavenly state in wisdom ruling far

And wide wheels thro' domains that end nowhere;
This is the city long foresaid of old

Walled up with jasper, and built of pure gold;--
This is the kingdom which can know no end,-
This is the king of glory,-our friend.

Why should men shrink from thee, since God so hides
A way with thee, and by none besides

Will e'er be found in peace, except thro' thee
We find admission to his kingdom free?
To shrink is self destruction-fiend begone-
Nor block the way of life....Messiah's come,—
Thy fate is told....his foot shall crush for ever—
Powers of darkness, sin, and death, together.

THE SACRED WARDROBES.

THE only thought that enters in my noddle,
In picturing the should-be modern Jewish model,
Is sacred garb; and, in this short Oration,
The theme is spiritual, for consideration :
A should-be model Jew, we must confess,
Is one who is clothed in gospel MODEL DRESS:

A model Jew-" within "-will never go
To any mart but Jesu's; Oh dear no!
Where else could he obtain attire so good,
As from the wardrobes of the Son of God?
"Twould matter not wherever he might hobble
One thing is sure-he'd never be a model
A should-be model Jew of the faith well met
Would go to Jesus for a MODEL HELMET:

Such model helms as those of Jesus are,-
Bear well their proof in pow'rs of darkness' war;
And whosoever wears not round his brain
One from this stock, must very soon be slain :
A should-be model Jew most surely bandles
Jesu's far famed, gospelled, MODEL SANDALS:

A should-be model Jew is incomplete,
Unless he have two models on his feet;
Which cannot be effected, if he buys
Any but those which Jesus Christ supplies;

These are the sandals in which the Saints have trod well,
And he who wears them not is not a model;
A should-be model Jew, mailed for the field
Must come to Jesus for a MODEL SHIELD

Of faith, that, with the Spirit's well tried sword,
He may stand, according to the Word

Of Truth having now on the whole suit of armour,
And ready for the dark assailing hour,

When, with fiery darts, the wily foe

Beats on the sainted warrior, for to overthrow;
Who when beset, would soon be in a poddle,
Unless exactly a proper Christian model :
A should-be model Jew you'd never see
In any thing but MODEL DRAPERY;

For now if any had the outside garb,
All eyes would scan the linen very hard;
And if you asked, if Jesus were the model,

You soon would find, that Moses shook his rod well :
A modern model Jew would something rue

Unless his virgin were a model too,

But it must be her choice, as his, no less,
To come to Jesus for a MODEL DRESS:

Nor would he be thought to have an odd will,
In trying thus to make his love a model:
A should-be model Jew at once would know
The house to which his virgin ought to go,
Messiah's (come) prime house he'd name to her
As that which model virgins should prefer.
And now we speak, we shall not do our part,

T' omit that here they can have a MODEL HEART:

New form; all changed from what they were so odd all. Be born again to Jesu's proper model;

For he can quickly change deformity

To that of heavenly uniformity:

Here all is ready-made, or made ready;

Or vestments, armours. Be not such a neddy.-
Peace to the ass; for Balaam was the noddy,-

When like you're doing, he went with naked body:
Attend to us just now we have your wit out,
And come to Jesu's sacred MODEL FITOUT.

And thus I've given, as simply as I can,
The outlines of Model-Christian-Jewish man.
