she would not go to bed until the daylight dawned. When her eyes fell upon him, and she saw his disordered dress, she thought that her worst suspicions were more than realized, and she prepared herself patiently for an outburst of savage fury. What was her surprise, when she heard her husband breathe out the word " Lucy," in the tenderest of

tones.

Why, what is the matter with you tonight, lad," she said.

“Lucy dear, I am going to try to be a good husband to you," was his answer, and then taking her hand, he recounted all the events of the night.

"Let us go," continued he, "into little Willie's corner, and there say our prayers together."

Willie had died, in that simple home had long been regarded as sacred; whenever the children came near to it they always spake with bated breath, because they thought that their dead brother's spirit still lingered there. And so Hurricane Dick thought that if they went to that spot to say their prayers together,

it would make the event more solemn. the dark corner they both went, and knelt down together hand in hand, and asked God to bless the renewal of their marriage vows, and enable them from henceforth to walk along the same path together, fulfilling the law of Christ, by bearing each other's burdens.

As the angels of heaven looked down upon the earth that night, I think that they saw no more beautiful and touching scene than was presented in this humble cottage, where at last

husband and wife were of one mind in loving the same Blessed Saviour.

And there for this last eventful night we will leave them; a night to be remembered by the faithful wife in the after years of her desolate widowhood.

THE wild, stormy night passed away, and the sun arose on one of those lovely spring mornings which fill the heart with joy and gladness. Even poor dingy Westcombe seemed to feel the charm. Out beyond the town the green buds in the hedges, the primroses and violets on the mossy banks, gave promise of the passing away of dreary winter and the advent of pleasant spring. The sky above was blue, and the happy birds sang blithely in the trees. It was, indeed, a glorious morning;

a striking contrast, in its peace and stillness, to the wild and turbulent unrest of the night before.

At an early hour Hurricane Dick came downstairs to find the fire blazing cheerily, the breakfast-table laid, and the three little ones assembled to meet their father.

The night's rest and reflection had but confirmed and strengthened his resolution to begin life afresh; to let byegones be byegones, and to press forward from henceforth towards the mark, as a faithful servant of Christ.

So gentle was his manner, so soft his tenderness, that his children, accustomed only to surly words and gruff orders, were struck by the change, and wondered within themselves what could have come over father.

When breakfast was finished, Hurricane Dick turned to Johnny, and said:
