CHAPTER 8

An Act to amend "The Dower Act'

[Assented to April 12th, 1923]

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

CHAPTER 9

An Act to amend "The Land Drainage Act"

[Assented to April 27th, 1923]

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the

Hlegislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

1. Chapter 56 of the Revised Statutes of Manitoba, 1913, being "The Land Drainage Act," is amended by adding thereto the following section immediately after 16 thereof:

(1) In the alternative, the Lieutenant-Governor-in-Raising money Council may at any time raise by way of loan or loans a sum or of Act. sums of money for the purposes of this Act, or any of them, and for any sum or sums so raised there shall be a lien upon the lands in the drainage district in which the money is expended in the same manner and to the same extent as though it had been procured by the issue and sale of debentures authorized by this Act, and such lien shall be in addition to all other liens under this Act, notwithstanding anything in this Act contained.

(2) The provisions of "The Provincial Loans Act," being Provincial chapter 156 of the Revised Statutes of Manitoba, 1913, and Loans all amendments thereto shall mutatis mutandis apply to said loan or loans.

(4) The Lieutenant-Governor-in-Council may, by order-in-Levies on council, determine the annual levy or levies to be made upon the lands in any drainage district for which moneys have been raised by way of loan under subsection (1) hereof and such levy shall be as legal and binding and have the same effect as if made under any other of the provisions of this Act, and such order of the Lieutenant-Governor-in-Council may be retroactive and may be so made with respect to loans heretofore or hereafter made for the purposes of this Act or any of them.

(5) The provisions of sections 20 to 24 inclusive of this Act Collection shall apply in the case of all such additional levies.

(6) In the event of any moneys raised for the purposes of one Use of district not being immediately required for such district, but for other which might be advantageously expended for the purposes of districts. this Act in another district, the Lieutenant-Governor-in-Council may, by order-in-council, allocate such moneys or any part thereof to such other district, and may, by order-in-council, readjust or redetermine the levies made or to be made in the districts affected by such allocation.

(7) The provisions of this Act shall be retroactive and be construed as though the same had always been a part of the said "The Land Drainage Act."

2. This Act shall come into force on the day it is assented to.

CHAPTER 10

An Act to amend "The Employment Bureau Act”

[Assented to May 5th, 1923]

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:

1. Subsection (1) of section 9 of "The Employment Bureau Act," being chapter 25 of 8 George v, is repealed and the following substituted therefor:

(1) No person, corporation or association shall operate any Employment employment agency as his business or occupation, and whether permitted. for fee or gratis, send or persuade, entice, induce, procure or cause to be sent from or to any place within the province, to or from any place outside the province, or between any two places within the province, any person seeking employment or undertake to give or give or furnish information regarding employers seeking workers or workers seeking employment. This subsection shall not apply to employment offices maintained by Exception. employers as part of their business organization for the, exclusive purpose of engaging workers for such business.

2. This Act shall come into force on the day it is assented to.
