PREFACE.

THE great end of writing is to convey useful knowledge and sound learning, by the most pleasing arts and seductive allurements. To betray the curious unwittingly into the discipline of morality, or the casual listener into the school and practice of divinity, is an event which is ever regarded by the writer and preacher as a satisfactory recompence to all their labours.
