But be not ye call the uppermost rooms at ows' houses, and for a pre ed Rabbi; for one is your 40 feasts; which devour wid Master; and all ye are 9 brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth; for one is your Father, which 10 is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters; for one is your Master, even Christ. 11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your 12 servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself, shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself, shall be exalted. 14 tence make long prayers; these shall receive greater damnation. MATTHEW XXIII. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer; therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. 13 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. 15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is made, ye make him two-fold more the child of hell than 16 yourselves. Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say; Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a 17 debtor. Ye fools and blind! for whether is greater? the 18 gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? And; Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever 19 sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. MATTHEW XXIII. 20 sanctifieth the gift? Whoso, therefore, shall swear by the al21 tar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon; and whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that 22 dwelleth therein; and he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. 23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin; and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith. But these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other 24 undone. Ye blind guides! which strain at a gnat, and swal25 low a camel. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteous26 ness. Thou blind Pharisee! cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean 27 also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear TO THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS. MATTHEW XXIII. beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, 28 and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and 39 iniquity. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the 30 sepulchres of the righteous, and say; If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with 31 them in the blood of the prophets. Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them 32 which killed the prophets. Fill ye up then the measure of 33 your fathers. Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers! how can 34 ye escape the damnation of hell? Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye shall kill and crucify, and some of them shall, ye 41 MARK XII. And many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a 43 farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and MATTHEW XXIV. 1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple; and his disciples came to him, for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said unto them; See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 3 And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying; Tellus, when saw LUKE XXΧΙ. And he looked up and the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And he saw also a certain poor widow, casting in thith3 er two mites, and he said; Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all. 4 For all these have of their 1 MARK XIII. Verily I say unto you, that all these things shall come upon this generation. Be 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gather38 eth her chickens under her wings! and ye would not. 39 hold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you; Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. MATTHEW XXIV. MARK XIII. 1 shall these things be? and Andrew, asked him private what shall be the sign of thy 4 ly; Tell us, when shall coming, and of the end of 4 the world? And Jesus an these things be, and what shall be the sign, when all these things shall be ful5 filled? And Jesus answering them, began to say; Take heed lest any man deceive 6 you. For many shall come in my name, saying; I am Christ; and shall deceive 7 many. And when ye shall hear of wars, and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled; for such things must needs be; but the end shall not 8 be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines, and troubles. These are the 9 beginnings of sorrows. But take heed to yourselves; for they shall deliver you up to councils, and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten, and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings, for my sake, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published among all nations. when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate; but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye; for it is not ye that speak, but the swered and said unto them; Take heed that no man de5 ceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying; I am Christ; and shall de6 ceive many. And ye shall hear of wars, and rumours of wars; see that ye be not troubled; for all these things must come to pass; but the 7 end is not yet. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you; and ye shall be hated of all nations 10 for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended; and shall betray one another, and shall hate one 11 another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall 12 deceive many. And be- 10 cause iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax 11 13 cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same 14 shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end When ye there 15 come. But fore shall see the abomina-12 Holy Ghost. Now, the |
