January comes in with moderately fine weather, for this generally cold month, the air is rather dry and clear, with the wind from the westerly part. for there will be little tendency to blow from other points. As the mouth advances the temperature will get lower, and an increase of moisture in the atmosphere will take place. About the 18th or 19th days it will be very cold, but after that to the end of the month, fine winter weather may be looked for, Bigh tides at the new moon of this month. 4 32 5 0 7 50 518 53 6 723 17 12 42 sets new 12 55 5 7 0 14 13 7 6 29 1 10 13 18 07 45 5 17 50 7 58 2 613 29 7 43 5 17 34 9 16 3 013 39 3 53 13 48 The Grimsby Packet leaves Grimsby, about 4 hours before high water at Hull; leaves Hull, for Grimsby, a little before high water. The Packets for Gainsborough, Selby, Leeds, Thorne, Doncaster, Sheffield, York, Goole, &c., leave Hull from 2 to 3 hours before high water. THE WEATHER. The fine, dry winter weather which took place at the latter part of the last month still continues, and although February is generally considered a wet month, we rather expect that the present will be an exception. The wind is still more inclined to blow from the westerly parts than from any other quarter, and little downfal may be expected until after the 20th day; and even then the atmosphere is more inclined to dryness than otherwise. High Tides again at the new moon may be looked for. THE WEATHER. The quantity of moisture in the atmosphere is on the increase; the Barometer is getting lower, and more downfal may be expected, which will continue more or less until the middle of the month. Afterwards the Barometer rises, and the air gets dryer, but during the whole month the wind will be changeable, sometimes blowing from the east and north-east points, but on the whole the weather may be considered fine for March. High tides at the new moon of this month, being equinoctial tides. |
