ABSTRACT OF TOURS.

FOR the accommodation of strangers about to make the Tour of the Lake District, and who are in doubt, from the number of routes, which, and in what order to take them, we have drawn up an abstract of four Tours, one of which is supposed to commence and terminate at each of the four principal towns lying upon the edge of the district, viz. Ulverston, Kendal, Penrith, and Whitehaven. By consulting the map and charts, Tourists will be able to vary with ease any part of the Tours here given according to their convenience; and by reference to the Index, the reader will find the page of the volume, in which the objects mentioned in the abstract are described at length.

I. ULVERSTON.

Besides the mountains named in the above abstract, those Tourists who can spare time, and are possessed of sufficient corporeal strength, are recommended to ascend the following, as the views obtained from them are extremely fine-WANSFELL PIKE and LOUGHRIGG FELL from Ambleside- HELM CRAG from Grasmere-HIGH STREET from Kentmere or Patterdale-SADDLEBACK and GRISEDALE PIKE from KeswickGREAT GAVEL from Borrowdale-and BLACK COMBE near Broughton.
