THE

NEW COMPANY DRILL

[blocks in formation]

THE OBJECT for which this small handbook has been compiled is to enable the reader to master rapidly the somewhat complex movements of the New Company Drill.

The book consists of diagrams illustrating the various formations of the Company; the details of which are given in "Infantry Training, 1914," paragraphe 84, 85, 86, and 87. Opposite the diagrams will be found the words of command applicable to the formations illustrated.

Both the diagrams and the words of command are printed in two colours so as to enable the eye to grasp at a glance the manner in which the movemente are carried out and the orders necessary for their execution. In addition the letterpress contains brief directions, which are only inserted where the words of command do not indicate sufficiently clearly what is to be done.

It is intended that this book should be used as an adjunct to the " Infantry Training, 1914," where will be found all details which have here been omitted. In order to render the diagrams as simple as possible the position of supernumeraries has not been indicated.

the Platoon Commanders alone being shown outside the ranks.

For the sake of the clearness of the diagrams and of the brevity of the explanations, Platoons have been numbered 1 to 4 invariably from the front or from the right. In actual practice the Platoons would not necessarily retain those relative positions.
