25 And they asked him, say. ing, "Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" 26 John answered them, saying, "I baptize in water: but there standeth one amongst you, whom ye know not; 27 even he who cometh after me; the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to unloose."
28 These things passed in Bethany beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day, he beheld Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said,

17 For the law was given by Moses; but favour and truth were by Jesus Christ. 18 No one hath seen God at any time; the well-beloved [Son] who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
