O GOD OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, Spiritual Light. FATHER OF GLORY! for the fake of Eph.i.17. THY CHRIST and THY GLORY, and in fubordination to it, give me the spirit of wisdom; not only a fpiritual beam, but the fun, the fpirit himself in my foul; that my wisdom may be a perfonal knowledge of thee, opening the heavenly image by a divine light in my spirit, where it lies veiled by the light of nature, under the image of the earthly man! May this light of knowledge fall upon my eyes, enlightening them to fee what was always before them, but hid from them, the riches of thy glory in me, and my fulness in thee!

May the divine nature, the power of Chrift putting forth itself by virtue of this union, take intire poffeffion of my foul! May I not be in thee as a tree in winter, when the life is all withdrawn, and funk down into the root: but may it be ever spring-time; that the fap of the GODHEAD may be afcending from thee into me, as one of thy branches; that my bed may be ever green; that faith, which is the union, the marriage-bed of thee and my spirit, may be continually fruitful!

Mayft thou, who actest in me, appear and manifeft thyfelf to me, in all thy love and loveliness! Mayft thou add to virtue, knowledge; that I may have, not only the virtue of the divine feed to mould and form my fpirit, but the
