L. M. [STEELE.] The exaltation of Christ. * NOW let us raise our cheerful Atrains,

And join the blissful choir above! There our exalted Saviour reigns,

And there they fing his wondrous love. 2 While seraphs tune th' immortal fong,

O may we feel the sacred flame;
And ev'ry heart and ev'ry tongue

Adore the Saviour's glorious name. 3 Jesus, who once upon the tree

In agonizing pains expir'd; Who di’d for rebels ; yes

'tis he! How bright! how lovely ! how admir'd ! 4 Jesus who did that we might live,

Did in the wretched traitor's place ;
O what returns can mortals give,

For such imeasurable grace ! 5

Were universal nature ours,
And art with all her boasted store

$ Nature and art with all their pow'rs,

Would fill contess the offrer poor ! 6 Yet tho’ for bounty, fo divine !

We de'er can equal honors raise ;
Jesus, may all our hearts be thine,
And all our tongues proclaim thy praise.

[DODDRIDGE.] Jesus exalted as a Prince and a Saviour, XALTED Prince of life, we own

The royal honors of thy throne ;

'Tis fix'd by God's Almighty hand,

And seraphs bow at thy commands 2 Exalted Saviour, we confess

The foy'reign triumphs of thy grace;
Where beams of gentle radiance shine,

And temper majesty divine.
3 Wide thy refiltless sceptre sway,

Till all ihine enemies obey :
Wide may thy cross its virtue prove,

And conquer millions by its love. 4 Mighty to vanquisa, and forgive!

Thine Ifr’el shall repent and live;
And loud proclaim thy healing breath,
Which works their life, who wro't thy death.

The Victory of the King of Kings.
BEGIN, my soul, the heav'nly song,

A burden for an angel's ongne. When Gabriel sounds these awful things,

He tures and summons all his Itrings. 2 Proclaim inimitable love,

Jesus, the Lord of worlds above,
Puts off the beams of bright array,
And veils the God in mortal clay:
He that distributes crowns and thrones,
Hangs on a tree, and bleeds, and groaus :
The Prince of life resigns his breath,

The King of glory bows to death. 4 But see the wonders of his pow'r,

He triumphs in his dying hour,

[ocr errors]

And while by Satan's rage he fell,

He dalh'd the rising hopes of hell.
5 Thus were the hosts of death fubdu'd,

And lin was drown'd in Jesus? blood :
Then he ar ofe, and reigns above,

And conquers finners by his love.
6 Who hall fulfil this boundless song?

The theme surmounts an Angel's tongue :
How low, how vain are mortal airs,
When Gabriel's nobler harp despairs.

Jesus crowned Lord of all. - ALL hail the power of Jesus

' name ! Bring forth the royal diadem,

And crown him Lord of all.
2 Crown hi ve martyrs of our God,

Who frot is altar call :
Extol the item of Jeffe's rod,

And crown him Lord of all. 3 Ye chosen feed of Isr’els race,

A remnant weak and small;
Hail him who faves you by his grace,

And crown him Lord of all. 4 Ye Gentile finners, ne'er forget

The wormwood and the gall;
Go, spread your trophies at his feet,

And crown him Lord of all. 5

Let ev'ry kindred, ev'ry tribe,
On this terrestrial ball

To him all majelty ascribe,

And crown him Lord of all. 6 O that with yonder sacred throng, We at his feet

We'll join the everlasting song,
And crown him Lord of all.

[RICHARDS.) Advocate, if any man fin. JESUS, before thy throne,

We bow with filial awe,
And our tranfgreffions humbly own

As sins, against thy law.
2 Where, whither skall we fly?

How 'scape from wrath divine ?
O be our advocate on high,

And claim us, Lord, as thine
3 Plead thy dear wounds, rich biood,

Thy agony, and sweat :
The mighty ransom of the God,

Who paid the finner's debt. 4 Nor alk we this, thy grace,

For our vile selves alone :
The whole of Adam's guilty race

Are, Lord, thy purchas'd own. 5 Hence all the shields of earth,

Shall found thy name abroad;
And shout in loudest strains of praise,
The ever saving God.

Mediator of a better Covenant. THY 'HY covenant, O Lord,

In all things order'd sure ; And founded on a stedfast hope,

Forever shall endure.
2 The word is givén, “I will :"

And who shall let thy hand?
The purpose of eternal grace,

It must establish'd hand.
3 Ifr'el shall know the Lord,

The Gentiles trust in thee;
And nations, kindreds, people's, tongues,

The great salvation fee.
4 Thy grace, thy mercy, truth,

Demand the grateful fong;
Let earth begin the blessed theme,
And he the train prolong.

Mediator of the New Testament. ! ALL gracious Lord, we fing thy love

A love more strong than death :
The testament divine was feal'd

With thy expiring breath.
2 Hail, Mediator, Saviour, hail !

We bless the ransom giv'n;
For us, for all was freely paid,

The richest blood of heav'n. 3 By thee, O Christ, from death redeem'd, Thy blood must sure prevail ;
